[...] Tech Crunch has a screen shot of how Yahoo intends to use the del.icio.us results. The benefit is fairly obvious. The search engine produces the results, and the del.icio.us data can be used to assess the ‘human credibility’ of each page (the more votes the better). The premise is good, but it’s not exactly a new one. In fact, it is essentially just PageRank rebranded. At a very basic level, the premise of PageRank was that each inbound link to a particular site was perceived as a vote of confidence. Indeed, links were the primitive form of social media and social voting. [...]

I totally aggree with you Michael ;) because del.icio.us is a fantastic way of searching regarding my curent phd researches about web2.0 / social bookmarking, I modestly developped a small app. that makes searches within del.icio.us a bit "different".
See for instance search on "infovis" (tag) within del.icio.us.
Unfortunately... no way at the moment to "open" this kind of app...
But... results seems really interesting (comments very welcomed !)

The results are consolidated and presented in a clean format to help you find the most relevant results. We also have a feature where you can adjust the weights for each of the search sources on-the-fly using sliders. Hope you can try it out, you may get a nice surprise at the results. Please do send us feedback so that we can further improve the service. Thanks. :)

Del.icio.us manages to avoid spam by making spammers accounts invisible. The account continues to exist but only the spammer can see his or her own account.

Apparently Del.icio.us will also pull a bookmark down after awhile if no one else likes it.

Unlike my first statement - which I've seen first hand - the second is partly conjecture.

Very clever, this is a great way for Yahoo to offer a genuinely distinctive search engine from Google. PageRank was great because it recognised the links between pages not what they said was most important. Now Yahoo can take it one step further and make the link between pages and people.

This is people powered search. Yahoo has done it. Congratulations folks!
