Rumors popped up here in Silicon Valley that Yahoo is in negotiations to buy Israel-based FoxyTunes.
The Foxytunes core service is a Firefox plugin that allows users to control their favorite media players from the browser. It has a small but loyal following, who also use their tangential services (an email/blog signature tool and FoxyTunes Planet, a site that aggregates music information).

The acquisition makes some sense given Yahoo recent overt signals that they are shaking things up in music. Last week they launched a new, stripped down, easy-to-use web based MP3 player as well. The technology that FoxyTunes has created could certainly be used to further that agenda.
FoxyTunes won’t return emails asking about this. Unsurprisingly, Yahoo also chose not to comment.

This deal only makes strategic web 2.0 sense if Yahoo vastly overpays for FoxyTunes.
And Y! can’t make this themselves why…?
I love FoxyTunes. Please Yahoo, don’t screw it up
This is a super cool app, clean UI, good selection.
I wouldnt mind Yahoo buying it, provided they didnt do some lame crap with it.
Oh, and just a note, I want Zune support for the next FoxyTunes. Its a popular enough media player, it deserves to be included.
Oh, and the NowPlaying is AMAZING on the Zune software, its awesome with the album art being displayed.
What happened to Broadcast.com?
I too like FoxyTunes. I would like it to support Songbird. I would have no objection to its being acquired by Yahoo.
They are basically paying for the followers, not the application itself.
Israel rocks, we own Silicon Valley. Props to Foxy Tunes!
This is a trend majors are following….. grown the inorganic way!!! where is this heading??
Y! will screw it up .. that you can be sure of
Mordechai: It seems more like Silicon Valley owns Israel
Joshua Walters: Are you a Microsoft employee by any chance?
Wow, it really shows that I use my PC mostly for work. My Firefox has only the “Web Developer” and “iMacros” add-ons installed
I have developed an application in this field that may interest Yahoo as well. How do I contact them?
Israel has the brightest of engineers, most money thats poured in are from Israeli/Jewish capitalists. We fund our own, grow our own, and publicize our own.
Jewish firms are by far the best – after all, We are the chosen ones.
Competition keeps org’s on toes to woo otherwise inconsequential customers.

You’re so full of shit dude
This acquisition looks like a desperate move to yahoo
One word for everybody… Webjay.
Michael – not sure what to make of your “rumors of a Yahoo acquisition.” Seems a while ago you said the same thing about PBwiki, when there was no such thing.
