The pricing may prove a challenge for some ISVs. But the infrastructure is the right one. Amazon AWS is exciting and dirt cheap and a great way to get a scaled app up on the cheap, but simply does not yet have the uptime, reliability or in many cases speed to work for mission-critical business apps. Salesforce has done the hard work and created the only mission-critical on-demand infrastructure and 'DaaS' ISVs can leverage.

SFDC didn't get it with their original $50 pricing. $5 still doesn't cut it. Interestingly, $0.99 is what they really should have charged. Their own economics shows it.

Read why SFDC doesn't get it on SaaS platform pricing, while Amazon does:

Um .. I get what salesforce.com is doing, but using "DaaS" ... hasn't development *always* been a service? "[Service] as a Service" seems a bit redundant.
