Big Shot Live Makes A New Hollywood Star Each Day

bigshotlive_logo.pngWe’ve called the new slew of social video sites (YouTube) and services (MySpace) a “fame machine” in the past, now some new sites are starting to take it a bit more literally.

Big Shot Live is a new gimmick website that promises to fly a new person to Hollywood each day of the week for the chance at hitting it big. It’s similar to other online reality shows like “You Be The VC” or Crackle.

bigshotlivesmall.pngDaily winners are picked through voting on a variety of user submitted audition tapes. The person with the most votes gets flown out, hooked up with one of the co-hosts, and prepped for a real audition with TBA tinsel town “Big Wig”. The show will aired five days a week, once for each of the different talent categories (modeling, singing, dancing, acting, TV host, comedy, sports). Todd Glass - you may recognize him from some VH1 shows - outlines the process in a video on the site.

Obviously the show and contest are a way to push visitors to the site. Fame-hungry viewers will post videos and their friends and family promote them. FunnyOrDie leveraged Will Ferrell’s fame to create a self sustaining community around comedy videos and I expect these VH1 alum expect the same. However, five days of watching aspiring talent struggle through an audition isn’t enough to keep me clicking back every day. The site will have to grow to sustain itself off of quality user generated audition videos, and I have my reservations over whether thousands of videos in that format will be compelling enough.

This seems like knock off of GotCast.com that TechCrunch covered 2 months ago, except bigshot doesn’t seem to have any real (or at least announced) connections.

It’s just a gimmick. It will die in a month and everyone will forget about it.

We think we will give it a try

Sort of the 21st century way of being discovered :-D

Yeah, it’s dead. Unless it has animals, it’s dead.

Seems like a decent idea, though not one I’ll be visiting. So much else to do.

Have you seen the promo videos by the contest ‘managers’ that are up on the site?? LAME…I don’t think this thing has any legs…

I think this is the real deal. I found there myspace and youtube page but I registered two days ago cuz I found this about CBS when i googled it.

http://www.wevv.com/programming/bigshotlive

I think CBS is behind the sight.

Yes, this is a CBS production, and it’s being promoted by local TV affiliates on air and on their web sites.

Oh, I am so doing this contest.

Actually, it is the real deal. It is CBS first attempt at online programming. It is running on 177 television stations websites around the Country! It will be promoted on-air with Entertainment Tonight and Jimmy Kimmel. Not to mention full page ads and editorials in US weekly, and of course YouTube and MySpace.and tons of local ads in local markets. Check out wwaytv3.com and Get those cameras rolling and make it BBBIGGG!!!

I can’t believe you guys think this is lame!! I did some research by googling bigshotlive and found a ton of stuff about it; myspace, facebook, youtube, blogs, ads from CBS, this site…

I’m totally going to enter this competition!

Anyone check out the cute girl workin for the contest?

Man, you stole my line “J”! I was gonna say the same thing. Brie is mad cute. I hope you get to meet her if you win! lol

Ya she is. I found her on myspace: myspace.com/briebecketlovesyou

Hi Guys! I’m so amazed that of all the blogs I contacted, Techcrunch was one of the only ones to write about Big Shot Live. Crazy. I’m doing a lotta stuff to get the word out, mostly videos and stuff. OMG, you gotta check out the latest one. I’m totally spoofing the Tom Cruise Scientology video.

I think this could be pretty sweet. It’s all in the execution. And will they allow really crazy stuff, or just network approved BS (it IS a CBS production, after all). The only thing - gotta change the name, or improve SEM strategy. Every time I type in “Big Shot Live” I see mostly links to that crappy Billy Joel song or that even crappier ABC show…

BriE, that video is totally funny. I like the mad, crazy laughing. :-)

I duno. I think it was kinda dum. She is mad cute tho

Dude this is like star search for 2008. I want ed mcmann to give me four stars! Did someone say you can be on Jimmy Kimmel if you win? I lpove that guy!

Hey!

So there are rumors that you can be an audience warmer for Jimmy Kimmel Live if you are selected. There are also rumors that you might be able to interview Vince Vaughn or, OMG, sing with JT! That’s Justin Timberlake.

I wish I could enter :(

kind of an interesting idea. I think where it is going to really have legs is that unlike other sites it has network support and as people said if the right people join it will be amazing.

We all just have to wait and see but thanks Tech Crunch for letting me know about this I know the perfect person that totally has to check this out.

I heard that this was being distributed by CBS, and when I looked into it on the web, it seemed pretty legit. I think it’s rad.

Can anybody here verify a rumor on Access Hollywood tonight that this show is giving a role on daytime TV?

I think that was ET… and it was something with Big Shot and Katie Holmes

Yes that was ET and yes day time roles, music video, theater… the works!

It’s real alright, I copied this from another article I found about the contest.

The more their network of friends stays behind them, a la Sanjaya, the more opportunities they’ll get to be in the limelight. Prizes are real: The winner of the singing contest at Grammy time will perform at legendary record producer Clive Davis’ famous soiree.

Hello, performing at Clive Davis’ soiree!!! That is huge!!!!

There up to 200 local television sites across the Country promoting Big Shot…it’s certainly picking up steam and auditions can be uploaded starting Jan 28th. Go check out BIGSHOTLIVE.com WWAY 2 Cooool!!

So I entered a video. But how do you link it to send out and get votes? There isn’t much help on the site, and the “direct link” send you to the main page.

Brie, any help? Anyone?
