Below is the transcript, in reverse chronological order, from the Steve Jobs keynote at the Macworld Expo. Thanks for tuning in!

10:44am: Newman stopped talking, Steve thanked everyone for coming, lots of applause, it’s over.

10:40am: lots of political references and he compares Bush to Ceasar and the Spanish Armada. Very political and Republicans wouldn’t be happy

10:38am: 3 minutes later and the Newman is still rambling about god knows what. Some movie references are funny, but I’m waiting for the hook to come on stage to get him off

10:35am: Newman finishes signing and is now talking about SJ being a hard act to follow, then cracks some jokes.

10:34am: wow, the song is heavily political, Republicans wont be happy. Jokes about the high court, referring to the US Gov as an Empire with comparisons to the Spanish Armada. I’m just waiting to SJ to endorse a candidate

10:33am: Newman signing song in defense of America, starts by saying the leaders in the US aren’t good, but not has bad a Caesar….seriously.

10:30am: Randy Newman to sing on stage to finish off proceedings. SJ notes his achievements in movie scores etc…

10:28am: the 4 major things SJ wanted to talk about have finished. Now reviewing the announcements

I predict:

$3500 - macbook air, 40gig solid state hdd, 12/13 inch screen, multitouch trackpad.

watching eagerly from Kathmandu, Nepal !!!

:) enjoy folks and be inspired !

Ujw

I’m still eager to hear more from the AppleTV, which I predict will be mentioned.

I got up early just to watch this coverage. can’t wait to see the third party app stuff for the iphone. how’s bandwidth Duncan?

As Ogre would say… N.E.R.D.S!!!

I bet 3G iphone with them bending over and paying MSFT for Active Sync capability.

Oh and iTunes doing movie streams as well to dick with NetFlix.

If the iPhone goes 3G and pumps up the storage i will go out and get one asap!

Guess GPS capabilities, hands on LBS, time for a new revolution….

If they’ll have 3G iphone I will be so pissed! :)
Will try to sell mine right away! :)

I don’t care what gets annouced (ok I do care) but I won’t be able to afford anything. I just know that I’ll be lusting for everything.

Daniel - pissed? me too. And then I’ll go buy one. :-)

Oh and ill also put up a bet that they have a new Mac commercial at some point…

Would there be anything about the Mac Pro?

Watching from Paris, France

Is anyone going to be streaming this live - Video or even just Audio?

I predict the iGoldigger. That device that comes with a large pricetag to cover overhead costs and is twice as expensive as the competitors. Oh no, forgot, thats every apple product.

Randy, Crunchgear is streaming audio live. we’ll be putting a link into the post asap.

mmm.. I predict new MacBooks, starting a 2 or 3 trillion dollars…

Get a life people.

Friends and acquaintances of the late George Moscone would be grateful if you could spell his name correctly.

Watching from Paris, France as well ;), even though I usually don’t care about apple much…
But… there’s something in the air.

A 3G iPhone would definitely be a nice surprise. We’ve already seen the new Mac Pros, but I’d like to see a subcompact / tablet type laptop to round things out.

Whatever it is (hoping for updated Macbook Pros), they’re updating their online store (http://store.apple.com).

LOL - MAScone??? You mean Moscone, right? Damn New Yorkers.

Why so much noise for a fruit?

Someone is really missing a trick not having a small auto-refreshing AJAXy page built especially for iPhone and iPod Touch browsers to follow the keynote in a Twitter-stylee. ;)

Don’t bother with CrunchGear (http://www.crunchgear.com/crunchgear-live-the-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/) realtime coverage. The engine powering it, CoverItLive, is Sh1ttingTheBed live.

Anyone have the link for the live webcast or is it going to be delayed and only at Apple.Com?

MA, finally seated with 4 bars from 5. All good.

I disagree with the prediction of the $3500 price tag for whatever portable is announced today. The price point is going to be more around 2k, right in between the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. It can’t function as the digital hub, so for any personal setup, it is an add on to a computing lifestyle, not the base. The MacBook/iMac combination has been a great way to get decent value computing power and portability from Apple for a long time. I think the vision is that people will start to have a standard two computer digital lifestyle, with a desktop at home for stuff that requires it, and a laptop functioning more or less as a wireless client that gets most of it’s functionality from the cloud. Now, some people saying that the iPhone is that client. I still see a space for something in between my iPhone and my laptop to serve my portable computing needs, but I don’t think that device is going to justify an 8X price hike above the iPhone. I think Apple will find the sweet spot with a 2-2.5k price tag… but we’ll find out soon.

Agreed about the CrunchGear page being useless. I loaded the page and it told me I need to upgrade my browser to the latest IE, Firefox, or Safari, etc. I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on WinXP. So I’ll be relying on the text and photos at Mac Rumors Live I guess.

http://www.macrumorslive.com/.

Not live audio or video, but I guess this is the best we can expect in 2008. I guess I know what kind of web 2.0 service to build this year.

Engadget is already doing a better job..on their live coverage page, Duncan. Step it up!

I want to read more about the classics in the movie… Gladiator for example!!

Hopefully their announce some game development for the iPhone. I’ve been wanting to port some of our games over to work with their SDK. Wouldn’t this game be perfect on the iPhone? (Imagine you are playing with a touch screen instead of your mouse and you’ll see what I mean)

Phit
http://armorgames.com/play/21/phit

I really want a small portable device. Nice wimax alternative to the Macbook pro would be nice.

Well Crunchgear just crashed and obviously duncan can’t update his post. Just Great.

All I want (can afford right now) is the 1.1.3 update for my iPhone. That’s it. Although it would be cool if they introduced a Touch Tablet, basically a 10″ iphone with wireless connection for data as opposed to phone. Just as thin and uber cool. With Bluetooth you can add a keyboard and mouse, if you wanted to.

That… I would buy in a minute.

tuning into gizmodo and engadget

The gun goes off and the TechCrunch team stumbles out of the blocks. Lame.

Sit tight everyone, the keynote hasn’t started yet.

But at least engadget can give an update in their post and say “we’re being seated” instead of me wondering if i’m wasting my time/bandwidth refreshing this “live blog”

Does anyone else have iTunes open, waiting to hit the “Check for Update” button in the iPhone menu?

I think Apple has crashed the social networking internets. Ustream down, Twitter down. Can’t get anything. Help Me GOD!!!!

The live Crunchgear page just took down the audio stream in order to keep their page from crashing.

TUAW is doing a good job as well.

http://www.macrumorslive.com/

This guy is on point. So far giving a quick and steady play by play.

Mike, Duncan, Mark,

Would this be an inappropriate time to ask for a job? :)

Good job so far, Duncan!

Twitter down :(

Maybe its part of the SDK announcement though.

http://www.macrumorslive.com/ - most up-to-date live coverage I’ve seen so far…

macrumors is updating nicely… TC - lame

It’s the new live blogging tool, CoveritLive that’s down. CoveritDead :-(

I dunno dudes, Duncan is beating MacRumorsLive for me consistently right now.

Wow, AAPL is down now, 2.25%. Lets see where it is at the end of the day.

Why is there a Microsoft logo behind Steve Jobs in the first photo?

@Joe Black - Office 2008 for Mac is being released - that’s the box art

Is Duncan's iphone included in 19.5% mkt share numbers? - January 15th, 2008 at 9:37 am PST

Lots of folks bought phones and they are not used here.

wtf….why should we pay for software upgrade of ipod touch…..i think microsoft deserves a thumbsup for this one.

Nice manbreasts Stev-o! ;-)

Now on with the laptops!

Yeah, the $20 Touch update is steep. Also, looks like the Apple TV update might be a little late on the market due to the Wii, PS3 and XBox360 already having all of those features (save HD on the Wii). The PS3 is the lagger here only getting its mediacenter update in the last few months.

I thought I would get the best coverage on twitter, but it’s completely down, how about that?

$20 for apps they forgot to put on the ipod touch? evil!

kind of a snoozer so far - where is the freckin 3g iPhone, how about an upgraded camera (5 megepix)? bored……back to work

How can he say TiVo has failed?

I just don’t understand why he continues to wear that ‘outfit’. Makes him look like an overgrown 12 year old.

Yeah - the $20 upgrade is not good, but I think the iPhone users get stuff for “free” because they are paying monthly subscriptions.

Would prefer to pay $20 to upgrade my iPod Touch than buy a brand new one…

“This will be a transformative version of the rental model” - ie, finally slay the Blockbuster beast, IOW :)

“Would prefer to pay $20 to upgrade my iPod Touch than buy a brand new one…”

I would prefer to pay $0 to download a software update to my iPod Touch than pay $20 to do the same.

This is how I would have entered the living room with Apple’s technology portfolio. See link to website.

MacRumors Live has gr8 updates too. Anyone know what the “Wait there’s one more thing” is gonna be?

Great to see to so many Apple fans….they are so much better than the PCs….

bookmarked @ http://livbit.com

Newman (”old guy” - geez, rub it in :) ) has never been known to be “politically correct” - go look up a song called “Short People” :)

fyi - the info is on the site now - $3100 for the ssd version - omg

Apple’s marketing team hard at work on their next slogans:

“Pull it out of Thin Air”

“Walking on Air”

“Breath of Fresh Air”

“Air Apparent”

Come on, help them out!

A paper-thin MAC?

Looks a lot like the paper-thin Intel PC announce this past summer, but with a coat of shinny white spay paint on it.

What’s next: paper-thin………..paper?

Randy Newman’s starting to look like Noam Chomsky.

Sorry Duncan, I don’t mean to be a pain in your arse, but Engadget was way more descriptive than your report.

You need to say more. These one-liner summaries simply aren’t cutting it.

JERANG I DO CHECK MY SITE ITZ GUNAN BE AWSUM!!!

Web 2.0 Exam Failed.

We don’t want pages of jumbled text. It’s a speech, for goodness sake, we want to WATCH it.

So where’s the link? (And yes, it’s gotta be live, and it’s gotta work.)

Where’s the link?

Remember Apple burying the 5.25” floppy, the 3.5” floppy, and the CRT monitor? Today it is burying the optical disk. Is it?
Sure, my Toshiba Portégé has no optical disk either. And so for years now. But there seems to be a diffenrence of Steve Jobs introducing an innovation …
Think of a world where a discussion Blue-ray versus HD DVD won’t matter any more - as everything is in the air/ online.

Time Capsule, Windows Home Server says hi.

so mike - have you already placed your order?

So…
iTunes rentals = XBOX Live Market Place, MoveLink etc…
AppleTV = XBOX 360, PS3, etc…
TimeCapsule = Windows Home Server (HP Mediasmart server etc)
Mac Air = Smaller version of Vaio / LifeBook

Apple plays catch up.

whoa, I did’nt realize I was reading backward until the end, what an idiot

Yeah. All systems shit the bed. Web 2.0 isn’t ready.

Thanks to those with the positive comments.

BTW MA is right. The laptop looked amazing, particularly when he pulled it out of the envelope live on stage. I want :-)

Thanks Duncan for the coverage, it was the best :D

Comparisons to Sony were somewhat off i felt - especially since the air doesn’t include an optical drive; it similarly doesn’t appear to have a network connection other than wireless, which for those of us that move large amounts of data around is highly disappointing. Similarly the battery life is hardly anything to shout about - once again when you look at what the smallest sony offerings will do. Looks pretty though!

# 81 “Ever take it out of any sweet envelopes? You got, like, 0.76 inches of air that time.”

It’s a little too Sleek: This thing looks like something off a low-budget sci-fi movie where the hero is killed in the end by some kinda weirdo alien.

A Little Too Powerful: Do these people ever think of the safety
