Listen to Pandora Internationally with Global Pandora

Update: It appears as though Global Pandora has been shut down since this post went live…deadpooled until further notice.

I haven’t been able to test it myself, since visitors from within the United States are redirected to Pandora itself. But a new site called Global Pandora (recently written up by TechCrunch France) apparently allows you to access Pandora from anywhere in the world.

As we covered last May, Pandora was forced to block international users from its streaming music service because there are no international laws equivalent to Section 114 of the DMCA that allow Pandora to pay rights holders for the usage of their content without signing deals with them first. Listeners in the UK were the latest to have the Pandora plug pulled on them, just after Duncan was compelled to write a how-to guide for accessing Pandora and other blocked sites internationally.

While international users can set up proxy servers or VPN connections to listen to Pandora, many less technical users will find a simple website like Global Pandora much more accessible. If you’re a reader from outside the US, give it a try and let us know how it works for you in the comments.

    yep, works brilliantly from Denmark too

    Great to login to my account again, though last.fm has been a nice substitute - their neighbour feature works quite well as music discovery too

    From what I remember of the original pandora.com, this version works exactly the same. I even signed the petition: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SaveNetRadioUK/

    I can’t imagine it lasting though …

    In Spain it also works fine as Pablo Z. says in comment #5. But it is strange, since pandora.com keeps showing the message about it being imposible to use Pandora out of the US. As if Pandora Global was something different. But I have logged into my account with the user/password I had with Pandora and worked fine. Last.fm was quite lousy in comparison. How long will it last?

    I must correct my first comment (20). So Yojibee was right having doubts.
    After a few songs there’s a register box that requires a US zip code. That seems to be the end for German residents.

    Can you just put in a US zip code? Try 44011. Avon, Ohio.

    Pandora is still working for me here in the UK anyway. But it looks like global pandora is somehow embedding the Pandora flash application in their page.

    It would be trivial for Pandora to block this - the fact that they haven’t yet suggests that they are turning a blind eye… (or maybe they are responsible for it!)

    Works in Australia. After about 5 songs it asks to register, and I just entered the only US zip code I know.. 90210 (From the dumb TV show) and it works again! Sweet.

    How does this site actually work without the copyright restrictions? How are they allowed to stream outside of the United States?

    It’s NOT working in Canada. I get a “box open” but when I enter an artist, I get a message similar to “player has been updated… click reload to install new player”. I’m pretty sure I have the latest Flash or whatever.

    Its down here in India :( getting the same error message.tried refreshing ,reloading,cleaned cache and then reload etc nothing works :(

    after trying for hours this mornign trying to manually set up proxy settings on my browser and screwing around with CGI proxies nothing seemed to work.

    aparently some proxies even cgi cant handle flash very well and was returning an error when loading the music player on Pandora, but im delighted to say that http://www.globalpandora.com has resolved everything.

    and i never thought i would ever say thank you to the French:P

    Ireland: Global Pandora appears to be blocked now. The message is the same one you get if you try to access Pandora via CGI proxies:

    “We’re having unexpected technical difficulties…”

    Luckily we can still listen to Pandora using Hotspot Shield (look it up, install, thank me later). t.
