Asian blog advertising network Adverlets is down for the count today, although we’re not 100% sure whether this is a deadpool entry or simply forgetfulness.
Edward Khoo emailed us to let us know that the Advertlets.com domain had expired and was currently showing a holding page. Other blogs are reporting ongoing issues with Adverlets leading up to today.
We last mentioned Advertlets in a post November 3 when their main competitor, Nufnang, was experiencing some negative press from users. Both companies cater to bloggers in Singapore and Malaysia. We have no way of confirming the current status of Advertlets because all the contact details naturally lead back to Advertlets.com email addresses. If anyone locally has any more let us know.

There was a company offering blog advertising on the other end of that domain which makes it a deadpool story. Honestly though, with an attitude like that I’d rather commit ritual suicide than ever cover your app

It’s back up but not for everyone yet because the DNS change is still propagating.
This smells like a marketing hoax… they probably did that in purpose just to get attention from the media … in this case TechCrunch! … Don’t be a sucker to this marketing ploy …

if they did, good on them, although as I noted in comment 16 there’s a whole pile of negative blog posts out there about them at the moment, I suspect that if they’re not dead, they may well be in trouble.

While it’s true about what you said and I do agree with some of the other comments about this is really a non-story PLUS it’s true that so many web 2.0′ish websites go dormant every single day and etc…..
I just feel it’s like an eyesore to see this kind of story hogging the headlines/on-the-frontpage of TechCrunch….
Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan to TechCrunch but you guys gotta avoid this kind of stories …
At least its news. You can’t have it every which way . You guys complain when TC covers facecrap , Google etc and you also complain when a TC author goes out and looks into a story not in the mainstream.
Atleast its better than some of the recent TC news covered in the last few days.

There are lots of angry blogger here in Malaysia because Advertlets did not announce or inform any of the users about this, at least I did not received any email regarding this matter. Either the company is dead or facing some problems it is still not clear, but the last time I check before writing this comment, the company website is still down.
It’s not that the webpage is expired.. It’s just that.. Apprently every blogs that put their ads is also automatically redirected to a parking site. Well, just imagine how much traffic and how much revenue is lost because of that.
So can the members sue for damages?

It’s had been a terrible weekend for both Advertlets and their users alike.
With Josh rushing around trying to fix the problem while frustrated publishers kept finding their blogs being re-directed. This little blunder had indeed affected thousands of blog in Asia.
Personally, I find that the explanation given by Advertlets was unsatisfactory.
What had happened?
A complication in the renewal process caused the Advertlets.com domain to expire, and caused issues for bloggers with our ads installed, which made their blogs redirect to a placeholder page. It was not our intent to do so. Advertlets.com blog users were unable to login to their Advertlets accounts and access the website as well.
What kind of complication were they talking about? Anyone who had registered a domain before would know that it wasn’t that hard to get a domain registered or renewed.
Maybe this would keep Advertlets to pay more attention from now on.

Although a little bruised, we’re still very much alive. The new DNS is now resolving internationally, and we are rapidly recovering most of our traffic. To those affected, firstly, you can be sure that this will not happen again in future, especially because it has happened before.
We’re sorry that our mistake caused trouble for many, and we will take responsibility to reimburse publishers for their losses. A detailed plan will be revealed shortly.
Meantime, be assured that a more robust, failsafe system (Advertlets 2.0) with more ad formats and features will be in place in February. Watch us, we’ll be bouncing back swiftly, and we’re pretty confident that our next major mention will be a positive one.

So I guess he is shaking up a little bit… Regardless of all the defense, I think this incident portrays the implications of poor management on the founder. In return, causes much regrets and inconvenience for its members.
Sadly, mistakes such as these will take a toll on its company, web 2.0 business and the reputation of its founders…

It’s true. It’s difficult bouncing back from such an incident. Many bloggers have decided to boycott Advertlets. Oh well, their mistake.
Well, it came back online a lot later than they hoped. I was pretty pissed when it happened, eating up the day’s traffic. Good thing I noticed it fast. And it’s quite ironic that the site came back online just a few hours after I finished writing this: http://www.stylishgeeks.net/content/view/51/1/
It is almost impossible for a internet company to forget to renew their domain… if this really happen, I doubt how efficiency is their business model and management.
