Amit Agarwal at Labnol created a video that shows an image of the TechMeme home page taken page every five minutes. 500 screen shots total are shown over a fifty hour period, sped up so that it all fits in a 50-second video. See how headlines develop, grow and eventually shrink over time. A high res version is here.

I’m lovin’ this movie, obviously. The high-def version is definitely recommended for anyone with broadband, since the embedded one seems over-compressed: http://blip.tv/...emeMovie535.mov
Dang. I don’t think I made it in either version.
Just found out about wesmirch from Gabe tonight @ SHDH… what the heck was I ever doing following TechMeme?
Pretty original and a cool idea.

Kewl but I don’t think the camera could keep up with preciseTechnology
blip.tv network speed to asia is horrible.. close to being unuseable… now 5 minutes passed and never finished even 3/5 of that “50 seconds” render…
And this is news because …?
snazzy.
“aka ‘A day in the life of Duncan Riley’”
AHAAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA
Was this by DR?
chrisw:
This is news because it’s cool and relevant to the web… that said, shut up.
Coooooooooooooool
Blogosphere is getting flooded so quickly….. going to create Blog Warming ??
It’s interesting to note that there were very few actual stories that didn’t involve blogs themselves on there.
Didn’t you basically just copy Amit’s post here? I would think this goes beyond fair use.
It seems that another meme tracker “Megite” is overtaking Techmeme in the last few weeks according to compete.com:
http://technozzle.com/?p=20
Maybe Techmeme is not that prevalent as we like to think, or maybe it’s only popular in the tech blogger circle (the echo chamber).
Baher – best technology meme is ePlatform. Go check it out @ http://meme.eplatform.com
Bahar, thanks, didn’t know that. At the same time it seems Megite has few real users based on things like bloggers’ referral stats ( e.g. http://searchen...0102-195756.php ) and subscriber counts ( e.g. http://www.tech...-google-reader/ ). My guess is that with their hundreds of topic sections, they’re getting alot of one-time visitors from Google.
Ah, I see ePlatform is now in the comment spamming stage of competition. Good luck with that Ramana!
Gabe,
We have pretty decent product and we at ePlatform like to compete on the value of our product. Slander is not the path I would take if I were you.
Ramana
Hi Ramana. Sorry, my opinion is that half a dozen anonymous comments plugging your service on blogs is comment spam. You can disagree. Signing your real name would make them seem less spammy, for starters.
BTW, you forgot to remove “anon” from your latest comment Name field. BTW#2: try to leave only one spammy comment per blog post: battellemedia.com/archives/004190.php
Thanks for the clarification Gabe, I see what you mean and it makes sense.
Still the declining traffic of Techmeme during the past few weeks is interesting, could it be the holiday’s slump? the next months will tell more.
To tell you the truth, I was surprised. Techmeme is one of the 3 first tabs in my browser all the time.
Baher: There was a holiday slump, of maybe 12%. Those graphs show a much larger slump that never in fact occurred. Since Jan. 2 traffic seems to be back with a vengeance.
Analytics sites have always given very odd answers when it comes to Techmeme vs. X…
Cool video!
That’s creative method to summarize the search.
Thanks for sharing
