Telecommunications solutions supplier Nokia Siemens has acquired mobile network management provider Apertio For €140 million.
Bristol, UK based Apertio provides customer management tools to mobile operators, as well as “convergence” tools that enable the delivery of multimedia content to handsets. Apertio’s “One” suite also caters to the growing Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) market.
Apertio software is currently used by carriers including Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone and the company has offices in the United States, Germany, Thailand, Malaysia and China.
The acquisition is expected to be finalized prior to the end of the first quarter.

Mobile content delivery software are a dime a dozen and not worth much.
They were eight years ago when there were not too many engineers up to date on how to do software for mobiles.
Much of the mobile software development has always been smoke and mirrors stuff and the revenue streams, even if based on revenue share, dismal, and amplified if you have only four customers, like this one seems to have.
I hope Nokia bought something really extraordinary software-wise that would justify the price they paid for the company.
This is interesting to me because I think consolidation is the only way left to grow and expand market share in the cell phone industry… to say it’s saturated would be an understatement. I know of Nokia and I know of Siemens but I didn’t know they where now one in the same… unless this is a venture bent on acquisition of mutual self-interest.

C’mon, people:
Can someone please use simple terms when describing the function of a company, please?
“…customer management tools to mobile operators, as well as “convergence” tools that enable the delivery of multimedia content to handsets. Apertio’s “One” suite also caters to the growing Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) market….”
Is that, like, pop-corn or baby oil, or…what the heck is that supposed to mean. It would be easier if someone just said: “This company makes software so you’ll know how many people are using cell phones and how much battery life is in those puppies.
Simplicity would be such a commendable language goal….
