Imagine walking into a store and getting an alert that the person near you also likes Family Guy. That sucks.

Interresting... Even though they don't disclose it, they are apparently using the open source Movino project (http://www.movino.org) for the video streaming from mobile phones.

Nokia have had The Nokia Sensor application out for over 3 years. Its like myspace profiles on your mobile but all via bluetooth. You can browse, message, send images, upload your photo to your profile etc etc

It's exciting to see more social apps moving to mobile platforms.

I'm a little skeptical about the user experience/speed of video over anything but Wi-Fi, at least for the near term (the iPhone/AT&T Edge network wouldn't cut it for sure)

@Tim - My thoughts exactly. I'll be watching with interest - along with many others I'm sure - to see how this "open" social experience evolves in 2008.

This is truly interesting stuff. The confergence of personal video, social profiling and proximity can make for a powerful experience. However, there is the spectre of poor information managment decisions by the network owners (as we saw with Facebook's Beacon). I will be interested to see where and if this plays on this side of the pond. By then end of 2008, we should start to see some currently protected APIs opened on many carriers, and I am wondering how many carriers will jump on the truly open, truly interactive, truly interesting social experience.
