Get Well, Om

om-small.pngGigaOm founder Om Malik had a heart attack last week, but now is thankfully recovering. He is only 41. This blogging thing is stressful (and the stogies don’t help either). It is always shocking when someone you know has a heart attack, but when you have as big a following as he does, those shock waves multiply.

On a personal note, Om and I wrote many stories together during our Business 2.0 days, and he is partnering with TechCrunch on the Crunchies. We need you back in the saddle, Om. Get well soon.

Update: (Arrington): Jesus Christ, Om. I’ve been sleeping all day with a cold/flu and I wake up to this news. This hits me pretty hard. You have to get better. Too many people love you.

look like is Dressing like a mobster lol.

  6. Raghu Kulkarni

It is also the South Asian body structure; with their thinner veins and arteries, the modern diet is simply too dangerous for most south asians, especially for the over-weight ones.

Guys, if you want to live longer, exercise!

Talk about the ultimate linkbait. Surprised that Calacanis hasn’t tried this with Mahalo yet.

Seriously though, heart issues are no laughing matter and I wish Om nothing but a full and speedy recovery.

Stressful? Between the bloggers themselves and the commenters, I can’t believe how much anger and hate there is out there. Glad I don’t live in the Valley.

  18. EH

Nothing like a heart attack to bring out the moving spam. Don’t let your compassion get in the way of your wallet, guys!

  19. ChandraB

  23. afdaf

No offence but this is a non story .

What is going on with Techcrunch ? is it lets let the world know whats going on with our drinking buddy day ?

    first scoble now om.

Im sure the description of techcrunch on google said something about ” covering the latest in Web 2.0 companies ” .

  24. Jon

Steve, it isn’ about disrespect… how can you respect somebody who doesn’t respect themselves? I don’t know anything about Om and a photo is nothing to go by but if he lives by this image… then I am not surprised at all and you get out of your body what you put in.

I wish him the best… hopefully facing his own mortality makes him take his health more seriously IF he wasn’t doing so before.

    Jon

  25. Larry Larrikin

    @26, you’re missing something.
    Maybe this will help:
A guy goes to his doctor, ‘doctor, will i live to be 100?’
The doctor says ‘do you smoke?’ ‘no’ ‘do you drink?’ ‘no’ ‘do you eat a lot of fatty and sweet foods?’ ‘no’ ‘do you have many sex partners?’ ‘no’
‘Then why the hell do you want to live to be 100?’

  26. Rob Abbott

    Get well, Om.

    Speedy recovery!

Is it so hard to have empathy for someone just because you’re on the Internet, or even just to keep the nastiness to yourself? And for anyone saying this is a non-story, how do you think the technology community would fare without the people who comprise it?

  28. Google Ads

Has anyone noticed the google ads appearing along the top and side of this article? Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to have content keyword triggered ads..

  29. Ely

    Get well the G Man

  30. Igor

    Agree with 29/Daniel.

    Get Well Soon, Om.

It’s possible to recover from early heart attacks, http://davidcrow.ca/article/BarCampER, I had mine at 32.

  43. Steven

Update: (Arrington): Jesus Christ, Om. I’ve been sleeping all day with a cold/flu and I wake up….

Instead of using a 4 letter swear word you would rather use the name of Jesus Christ, the creator of the universe? Deuteronomy 5:11
‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain”
