Russian ICBM’s aren’t the only thing the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will be tracking this Christmas, and Google (which is everywhere, and knows everything) is giving them a hand.
The annual NORAD Tracks Santa page is back, and this year it comes with some extra Google goodies.
For good boys there’s a YouTube Channel, that doesn’t care if you’re naughty or nice…as long as the content isn’t subject to a copyright claim.
For good girls there a Google Earth mashup, with cool 3D imagery that blows Barbie Online away.
For users of Seemic and other such toys, there’s santa cams as well; How many responses it will get, only time will tell… but I bet it’s not as many as Loren.

This is funny.
That is funny really funny, it would be cool if we really had some santa and we had to track that sucker down….but on opposite side we can’t catch bad guys in iraq
There is no Santa Claus!

The whole Santa Tracking video is here.
I love the Norad site. Its wonderful.
Well if Google can track our blogs it sure can track anything else..:)
I thought NORAD, like AOL, is history…
So is Michael pro Google and anti AOL..:)
Ho ho ho.. Merry Xmas Everyone!

Igor the Troll
if you’re referring to me who wrote both those posts (not Michael….which part of my name on the post isn’t clear???) we’re not anti-AOL at all. I had dinner with some of the team from AOL when I was last in SF, great people, interesting product development, if anything probably under rated; but they still killed Netscape, facts don’t make one for or against on any front
ITrush nice blog, interesting inventions.
Maybe you can add Igor The Troll to your inventions list, it is extremly original.

And a Ho, Ho, Ho, to you Sir.
Duncan, I know you are not Michael, and I was just using my Gremlin tongue and chick..:)
But it is ashame that AOL was side steped by the market, just because it joined Time Warner! Losing its independence took the creativity out of the incubator!
Merry Christmas to all.
Santa tracking is a weird concept. Whose idea was that?
Anyway, great video clip.
I think they’ve been using the same cheesy 3D animation for a few years now… maybe Google can help them improve on that as well
Igor The Troll
I think eventually what’s left of AOL will be snapped up and some one is going to make a killing from the tech and great product base they have (ie not the ISP side), it’s just the name itself may be what’s actually holding them back.
No probs on the name side…it’s just we get other trolls who attack Michael for what I write and I’ve always though it rather bizarre
Well I glad you realized I am not a Troll..:)
Maybe the AOL name is what really worth the money?
Wow, I heard a radio interview with the fellows from NORAD today. The fighter pilot escort in actually follows the heat signature from Rudolph’s nose. Apparently, it is THE ONLY WAY to find Santa because his sleigh is so fast!
Thanks for letting everyone else in on the secret of following him on the magical night.
Merry Christmas, and happy watching.
Smart Trolls don’t attack Duncan & Erik. Many dead pool startups & angry posters want to attack Michael Arrington. Don’t ask me why. But I don’t know why.
I think trolls hated his guts… not because success and frame. Something else worst than libel attacks & bully startup attacks. If you type michael arrington sucks on google. you get 21,000. There’s alot of anti-techcrunchers…Uncov is an example anti-techcrunch.
Some people don’t like Michael Arrington. Not me. I’m just fan of techcrunch.
>Maybe the AOL name is what really worth the money?
OL.com was sold via auction earlier this year for 150K.. so probably AOL.com is worth between 100K to 150K.
The Google Maps API tracking is now live, check it out:

Click the map to go into interactive mode, much more enjoyable.
(Feel free to report bugs to my email)
This is just another reason Google is bad for the world. More lies. More consumerism. More of everything that is wrong with this country world.
There is enough wonder in the world without having to make up lies to get our children’s imaginations going.
Truth for tots.
Nice video clip, just wondering how NASA could have presented this?
Santa can afford all these new toys for kids because he bought into Google stock when it was a fraction of what it is now, I am sure he also gets favorable stock options from the two founders as well
