I shop online so I don't have to deal with such headaches. And there are much less gimmicky online stores from cities like Shanghai (http://www.mudanboutique.com comes to mind) that offer great prices on pearls (and very low global shipping prices) all the while coming off looking quite a bit more respectable than Shangby.
