Ho Ho Ho: 5,000 Hulu Invites for Our Readers

Update: As of 10:54am PT, Hulu has given us 2,500 more invites, so try again if you were denied earlier. Also, as some have reminded us in the comments, Hulu will not work for those outside of the United States.

We’re hearing reports that Hulu has been letting lots of people off the private beta waiting list and into the site. But in case you haven’t gotten access yourself, you’ll be happy to hear that we’ve been allotted 2,500 invites to give our readers.

To get yours, just go here and enter your email address. And if you’re too late, there’s always OPENhulu.

For more information on Hulu, read our review of the service here.

Would really like an invite please?

Yep, I would love to have an invite too!
Thanks!

a better title would be:

ho ho hulu

:)

Yes please:-)

I would also love an invite.

certain level of IQ is required to get one, sadly. You have to know how to read.

I’d like one! Thanks!

Um, your href for the “here” link is empty

I would love an invite, thanks Tech-Crunch and Hulu!!!

Would like an invite please.
Link you provided goes directly back to techcrunch front page.
Thanks

Oh, I see now. The link WAS just going to techcrunch. I see that it has been corrected now.

The “here” link just goes to the TechCrunch home page…Do we just leave a comment? Do we have to put our email address in the comment body?

Thanks a lot TechCrunch! A great early Christmas gift ;)

Hulu is an awesome service. I really enjoy being told that this video is currently not available in your country/region. especially when it apllies to all videos on the site. If we in the EU/Asia cannot access content on the day of release/broadcast, than p2p will continue to prosper.

I’m surprised they hooked you up Mike, considering how much smack you talked about them pre-launch. Since the beta has been out you’ve been much kinder but still…

I’ve been using my friend’s hulu account for a few weeks and been enjoying it quite a bit. Now I finally got my own though :D

I applied for an invite myself some time back, then when I got an invite I realised that I couldn’t use it, because I live in Asia -_-

Sucks.

I’d like to have a test thought I’m not in America.

looks like they gave all the big blogs 2,500… that answers your question #16 sean “clickyman” :)

just go to:
/beta/gigaom
/beta/mashable
/beta/readwriteweb

smart marketing tactic

Thanks for the invite…

I’m impressed. Hulu sounded pretty lame when it was first announced. The name is still retarded nonetheless.

Dear Mike & Chums,

In the UK Hulu is a type of popular cylindrical crisp, the fabled Hulu Hoop.
Dear Liz et al,

Your wit wisdom and insight throughout the year keeps me in good cheer so herewith some singing lights and the obligatory winter scene to warm your cockles http://www.bon-bon.tv/xmas07/

Best Wishes,

Adam

As you will note my crude cut n’paste message (above) has tripped me and I now have a face full of snow, so to make up for it I’ll say this, what’s all the huluoopla?

Well Allen, if anything that shows that TC kicks all of those other blog’s ASSES! TC has already given away 700, but the others haven’t even hit 100 yet. Suckas!

No I’m just playing… but seriously… TC knows how to raise the roof.

@21: I’m also impressed. It’s good to see this actually happening. There has been a lot of “buzz” around lately with watching shows/movies online - it’s just a matter of time before it really catches on.

When i complete the signup process, it takes me to a page containing nothing but this snippet of JavaScript:

Element.update(”count”, “1860″);

Nicely done, Clown Co. (In their defense, the signup worked.)

unfortunately for me, hulu cannot be accessed from the netherlands yet :-( can only US based users can access hulu.com?

regards,

Tom

i got hooked on house because of hulu. damn you hulu!

STOP POSTING SHIT UNTIL YOU RELEASE THE CRUNCHIES. YOU’VE MISSED TWO DEADLINES.

Assholes, do they even know a world called globalisation….

only in US!

heroes season 2 ;)

Their interface is pretty. The site UI, player, and user experience is actually not bad. Here are my problems, though:

I don’t have cable - one reason is because I’d rather pay for individual shows and not have commercials. So far there’s no option here to pay extra to remove the advertising content (which is pretty bad, so far - you’d think they could at least target it better).

The full-screen quality just isn’t that good. I just compared it to some of my iTunes shows and there’s a huge lack of detail and pixelation on my (even small-ish) HD set. I don’t feel like I’d want to watch these shows on my TV. And I’m just not willing to watch TV shows on my laptop.

If they offered a premium version where there were no ads and better quality, I’d probably use it. But it would have to be comparable to iTunes prices for me to not look, ahem, elsewhere… At that point, why did they even bother to set this up? I’d much rather just get all my TV content from one place.

grrreat, now i can use it with my profile in catodicos.com
add me ;)

@Brian - Might want to send those comments to Hula if you haven’t already.

Hulu is garbage.. its American only.

Might be cool if It actually worked in Canada! I was all pumped to receive one of the first batches of private invites a few months ago, only to be disappointedly receive the ‘Video is not currently available in your country/region’ message.

Booooooooo

#30, when posting on a North American blog, especially when bashing the U.S., please us a ‘z’ instead of ’s’ in words like globalization. We like to substitute ‘Z’s. Adds more Zing. Thanks!!

Seems like they offered every single tech related blog 2,500 invites eh?

i am quite impression with Hulu, they also made a good decision to provide the embedded video. This will give them viral growth needed to compete with youtube. Also It allows me to bookmark the embedded video on my favorite social video bookmarking site http://www.myvidster.com/video/3250/ wink wink

“Unfortunately this video is not currently available in your country or region. We apologize for the inconvinience”
How silly.
I’m for Israel so I can’t see 90% of what’s on hulu.com.
way to go.

Thanks! Invites are officially GONE!

Is the US-only thing solved by using a US based proxy?

Hulu roxrz…Battlestar Galactica from the 1st episode…loving it.

Registered but no shows where available for me because i’m in sweden. So this site kinda sucks for me this far :L

Thanks! Just watched some episodic TV…

Since TechCrunch is out of invites, as of few minutes ago Mashable still had more than 1,800 there, so you might want to get one there: http://www.hulu.com/beta/mashable

I signed up, got the invite and ended up with a SQL error. Perhaps Hulu rushed up with the invites because Catodicos also launched today? Hey TC, show some support for smaller startups! I’m seeing Hulu invites in all blogs I read (Mashable, GigaOM, RWWeb…), yet not a word about Catodicos.com anywhere. I thought TC would be different… So much for ClownCo…

why are you guys so surprised it doesn’t work outside of the states - the point of this site isnt to try something new, its to sell ads, and since the current ads are US-focused only, there’s no real reason for NBC to go thru all the legal mumbo jumbo of showing content outside of the states.

Have they been sent out yet? I signed up but I got no notification of anything. Odd.

I was surprised to like Hulu…they seem to be adding new content (although it should be easier to find (just added Roswell, Firefly, etc…) I would like to know when a show is going to “expire” if at all…and separate add a freakin’ symbol beside shows with just clips.

I finally got an invite to Hulu on my own… when I realised that no content could be played in Canada. None, nada zip.

Oh well….

Thanks, TC… I just spent all morning watching Family Guy reruns instead of doing any actual work. :)

I’m actually surprised… the streaming quality is great. I haven’t tried any of the embed features yet, but so far so good.

I got my invite last week after waiting months. I was excited to finally get in and then found that I was blocked because Hulu has forgotten about the Overseas military. I’m in Japan on a military base, which is US sovereign land. My cable provide is a US provider named Americable that has contracted with the Department of Defense to provide cable and DSL to overseas military. I know Hulu can tell that I’m on the base, because Torrentspy prevented me from downloading loading from their site with a message that read, “you are located in the USA you cannot use the search features of the Torrentspy.com website”. If Torrentspy knows, then Hulu knows. I sent an email to Hulu last week asking them to open up to the military overseas but didn’t get a response.

I guess this means that Hulu doesn’t care about overseas military, an early Christmas present. Thanks Hulu.

Thanks TechCrunch!

This is definitely better than Joost! Now I can watch all of my favorite programs, without TiVO!!!

A very satisfied customer…

~Darnell

If you missed out on an invite you can still watch Full Hulu Episodes on http://hellohulu.com . All of the most popular shows are on there including, The Office, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Family Guy, Simpsons… etc.

Hulu > Joost. For sure.

Thanks.
