Google Wants To Index Your Videos

Google has launched Sitemaps for Video, an extension of their webmaster sitemaps program that will assist webmasters in having their videos indexed by Google.
To be indexed, webmasters must create a sitemap page that provides a list of videos on each site that is compliant with Googles sitemaps protocol, which since November 2006 is standardized with Yahoo and Microsoft as well. Webmasters then simply submit the URL of their video sitemap to Google for indexing.
Google has continued to improve its video index beyond its early days when it started as nothing more as an index of Google Videos. Webmasters keen to see their videos indexed in Google will undoubtedly welcome this move, and Google’s video index will be the richer for it.

This is good stuff, much needed.
The more features the better.

As soon as I lose a couple hundred pounds and shave my facial hair, I’ll post some videos of myself online.

Next next thing to index: the google indexes…
Would there be any benefit in submitting a sitemap if you use YouTube videos on your site? Presumably Google would already index these.
Yawn…
Yahoo, which had the best video search for years now, introduced “media rss” back in 2005, which provided a way for publishers to add their videos and its metadata to Yahoo’s index
Hopefully this will help finding the right video(s) you are looking for. I’ve always had trouble, so I started this experiment…
I’ve created a site lets the users catalog relevant videos. Checkout http://www.usefulvideoclips.com. The goal is to create a directory of video clips from all over the web. The site allows you to find useful videos on the subjects you are searching for, and let you categorize video clips you find useful for others.
Sounds good. Does this mean Google Video is committed to indexing and searching the Video Web and not just YouTube? I would assume so, but the “YouTube” addition in their main nav is contradictory to that.
nice, seem now Google will not only index everyone else video content, deliver a great user experience but also then profit from all the free content it will be able to index and play back through a google player i suspect at some point with their own advertising, placements and monetisation strategies.
Another smart commercial move to make money from usnig other peoples assets - i wonder whats next?
Knol containing being augmented with all the content across the web and then slapping on behavioural targeting to monetise a .org concept??

Version 1.0 at the moment but will be adding too it soon.
Plus I think it is the worlds FIRST video sitemap software?
I don’t get it why would google want to index videos on your site better if they already own youtube? A better option for them would be to encourage people to use Youtube for their videos then embed them on their websites.
