michael- haha i haven't been on tech crunch for like couple of days and i look at new posts and see word bong, weed, and pass the bong a lot, haha funny. you must smoke a lot lol.
but besides that, i agree with this guy and disagree with him, i think marijuana at liquor stores is a little too much, i mean it might help the subprime mortgage industry because business would be booming, everyone would open a liquor store and sell weed, i would i'm sure good money in it.

Gravel makes Kucinich look like a moderate Democrat. Why would an unlimited number of indentured servants, paid less than American workers, flooding this market be a good thing for techies?

That would result in less Computer Science students. They don't want to enter a career that has diminishing opportunities for them - where they are forced to compete with exploited labor.

Students are not shunning Computer Science. They are shunning companies who hire Computer Science graduates. It isn't that there is a lack of interest in science and engineering. There is a lack of interest in job insecurity.

Hey Arrington, What gives? Are you planning to interview Ron Paul or what? I would think that Techcrunch would share a certain affinity with a man who has motivated millions of Americans to use the Internet to streamline their candidate's campaign. For a web 2.0 denizen, isn't it hard to ignore the groundswell?

[...]
We know that both Mike Gravel and Ron Paul get little media coverage compared to most of the other campaigns, but Arrington raises an excellent point. These guys frustrate their opponents...Well, here it’s obvious Ron Paul and Mike Gravel are hugely relevant, yet compared to their counterparts, they simply don’t make the news as much.

So, why? Is there a correlation between a campaign’s fundraising and media coverage? Is there a correlation to a candidate’s height and media coverage? Additionally, is there a correlation to a candidate’s likability and media coverage?[...]

Chris - silicon valley is what it is because of foreign entrepreneurs. They come here instead of building their own SVs elsewhere. We would be nowhere without them.

I want smart, risk taking people to come here and start their companies. Who cares where they were born or what color their skin is.

@30: Imagine someone was born in a different country, heard about entrepreneurship in America, believes that Silicon Valley is the place where talented and creative people can change the world through technology and wants to make that dream come true. He'll create hundreds (or thousands) of jobs for Americans, pay LOTS of taxes to the US government and create something that will improve the lives of lots of people, especially Americans. Oh, but he happened to be born in a different country, hm, well, he should stay the hell away from us then.

Why does having been born in the US automatically give everyone those rights and the idea that noone else should be able to get them either? When exactly did your ancestors come to the United States? I can understand people who say that immigrants must try to adapt to America (though what that means is somewhat ambiguous given how diverse America is) but saying that you have to be born here to be a top Entrepreneur is ridiculous. I don't think our California Governor is very competent but I'm glad he had the right to come here, work, get citizenship and then become successful (not necessarily in that order).

It's worth noting the non-traditional way that Gravel's message is getting out. Gregory Chase, a hedge-fund owner, has been spending huge amounts of his own money to push Gravel's message in New Hampshire. Greg, who is not allowed to collaborate with the Gravel campaign, went as far as to offer NBC $1m worth of advertising spending if NBC would keep Gravel in a recent debate. Check out the following links for more on this exceptional effort to keep Gravel's voice in the national discussion:

"MA : Yeah, particularly since a lot of these people, and I don’t want to editorialize here, but a lot of these people end up staying and starting companies and some of the most prominent entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley were originally H1B visa holders."

I differ with you there MA. I think the most prominent entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley should be Americans. Bill Gates loves those visas too. I would like to see more money spent on education so that we can have good American business leaders instead of importing them from other countries.

What if Bill Gates went to MIPS to sell them the software for the Altair and they told him that an Indian on a H1B had come in and charged them 1/4 as much because they outsourced to India? People would have gotten shoddy basic, and the hobby PC revolution may have taken a very different course.

So why shouldn't we enjoy the same environment that let Bill Gates make his fortune today?

It's not like we go over there and start usurping their IT economy?
