Making Fun Of Facebook Is Fun: Add Fake Beacon Actions

Well, I asked for negative Facebook speculation and rumors and, even though I was just kidding, a ton of stuff rolled in.

A new Facebook application called Bonfire is my favorite. The idea is that you can beat third parties who are inserting information about what you did on their sites into your news feed, to the punch.

So now you can insert a statement like “Mike bought Preparation H at Walgreens” directly into your news feed before Walgreens does it for you. It’s obviously a joke, but it’s also a fun way to insert a direct message into your news feed. Enjoy.

Sometimes its a good idea to insert some funny things especially if your running a site… it’ll add some spice, just make sure you know what you’re doing.

this may be worth signing up to facebook for…..nah.

i think this is awesome -

Hasan canceled his comcast cable service because there is nothing but crap on TV and comcast is a virtual monopoly.

Hasan closed his Yahoo account because he was afraid they would share his user info with the Chinese government and he’d end up getting tortured in jail cell.

what a shitty app.

whoever was the GENIUS programmer that created it, decided to put a live feed underneath the actual app, thus making the whole thing lag.

and only took two minutes to hack in order to create customized messages.

Probably I should use facebook now!

Here’s the funny part:

Bonfire:
2 daily active users
67% of total

Love the idea, but the app is sending my CPU into 100% and crashing Firefox.

FB War from TC is going in Full Swing! How Sweet :D !

I love how up until the point that Facebook took a star employee from TechCrunch, they were all about sucking FB’s apparently massive D (although, TC may not admit to that now). I love the loyalty, guys. Really, I do.

Heh, I think this is pretty funny :)

For the first time in months (years?), there’s a TC article about FaceBook that I enjoyed reading.

this will be a great tool for Dan Ackerman!

LOL. I knew it was only a matter of time!

I just don’t get the draw to social sites like facebook. Are people going to move to using Facebook as a substitute for meeting friends face to face?

I have heard dozens of people telling me that they use facebook as a tool to keep track of their friends’ lives. Why aren’t we giving people a call and talking to them?

Facebook and other social sites like it are the future of ’socializing’ and I would bet that people are going to be acting really strange when it comes time to meet someone in person. So much so, it may be considered strange.

Moreover, we spend time worrying about privacy on one side and then want people to read all about ourselves on blogs and such. So what’s it going to be? Are future biographies going to be written by computers that get a feed from a chip in the person’s brain or will we still have the luxury of reading a slightly biased view from someone close to the subject?

whats a facebook?

I can bet that Mike gets thousands of dollar daily to write about Facebook.

This is the top-secret Pay per Post thing………..STOP WRITING ABOUT FACEBOOK MIKE !!!!!

Thanks…huh*

Looks like that app is down. No more bonfire.

3 users? What’s the web 2.0 valuation of that program - like $1B?

sorry,i don’t find such a app. in facebook’s app. dictionary. But i wanna try it.I think it must very interesting :)

“About eight hours ago, we released a new application called Bonfire to test the crashability of peoples’ browsers and discover the level of excrement that they will tolerate. We’ve made a lot of mistakes building this application. If your browser crashed, or you hacked the app, or your level of application-excrement was exceeded, I apologize for it. While I am disappointed with our mistakes, we appreciate all the feedback we have received from our two users. I’d like to discuss what we have learned and how we have improved Bonfire…but not today.”

And those who think it’s a fb war - bullshit. It’s not a fb war. arrington has stock in the company, he’s trying his best to bring it up as much as possible and keep ti relevant. that’s all.

what a very useful application. Very productive.

NO ONE CAN SEE YOUR NEWS FEED UNLESS THEY HAVE THE SAME APPLICATION ADDED.

That is all.

coool man i love reading your post it gives me lots of info that i dont have to go elsweare to read it :)

Cool add-on. What bothers me about facebook is how all of the apps frequently crash or have some error. So when you’re trying to post something, you have to start all over. Facebook needs to refine their platform and get rid of bugs.

Facebook gives us the option to share with our friends those unforgettable moments, but it as well allows us to know other people… is only necessary to have just a little bit of time to dedicate to Facebook, and that is something on which we did not count at our time.
