Rich,

Actually, this is a very common misconception. Paper *cannot* be recycled over and over, only about 3-4 times. The reason is the fibers eventually get too small to hold together after they go through the mechanical and chemical bath of the de-inking and recycling processes several times.

If you want to truly make an impact on recycling/mail/paper then you might get your postal mail online at a service such as www.earthclassmail.com, opt out of credit card offers at www.optoutprescreen.com, get on the DMA's opt-out list a www.the-dma.org to get off junk mail lists, and go electronic with all the bank statements and utility bills that you can do it with.

Don't forget that paper recyling requires transportation too along with all of the chemical processes needed to get the ink out of the paper. This material doesn't have to be "de-inked" apparently. I think there is a great explanation on their website.

I think this is a terrific product/concept. Paper is killing the environment. I looked at their website and their material is 40-70% better for the plantet than recycled paper.... and the material can be reused forever!

Love it!

Gilltots,

Yep, amazing that a big company like Shaw would be stupid enough to use a deceptive 'Eco-Friendly' pitch.

If they want to help the environment, why don't they offer the cards as pdfs so we can print them on a local color printer, and add a 'please recycle me' pitch on the bottom of each card so that maybe the person we're giving it to could recycle it locally.

They really think that burning additional carbon to ship the cards back to them just so they can boost their PR image is something to promote.

Is Al Gore just wasting his time so big companies can try to capitalize on this issue?

wait wouldn't it be "greener" to just recycle the card with your regular paper recycling? isn't shipping it back across the country kind of a waste? please explain.
