For those following this drama, a few key items to update:

The 10th has come, gone and no funding announcement or announcement of any kind by "Scam" Sethi.

LeWeb3 Come and Gone. No apearance by "Scam" Sethi

"Scam" Sethi announces he is stepping down from Blognation (perhaps in an effort to avoid the litigation that is certain to come)

China editor David Feng officially suspends his Blognation efforts (contradicting his prior commitments to continue)

Japan editor Robert Sanzalone also suspends Blognation efforts (he too in contradiction of prior posted commitments to continue blogging)

"Scam" Sethi states he is auctioning off Blognation however one wonders exactly what he thinks he owns to auction? Not the content, the writers haven't been paid so they own that. Not the code, the developer hasn't been paid either so he owns that. Not the domain name, that belongs to Tristan Louis.

Him...maybe "Scam" is too appropriate...

PS: Sadly, Marc Orchant passed away a week ago Sunday for those that missed this tragic news more information can be found here: http://owstarr.com

Even if Sam eventually pays people, umm... isn't it irresponsible and unethical to hire people and promise to pay them without the immediate means to do so. Put differently, it's extremely unethical to make a 100% guarantee to someone when in fact, there is not that degree of assurance that the promise will be fulfilled. I don't tell my friends I will definitely be somewhere if I know there is a 20% chance I will get held up in traffic. And I would certainly not take such liberties with the truth when it comes to people's livelihoods.

Phew! I'd like to add a little bit about my experience of late. I've put 2 1/2 years into a startup receiving no income but having received equity properly signed over.

Now we're at launch time, I've been asked me to give my shares back for nothing (and there are two sides to the story I admit), or they would simply liquidate the existing entity and I would have to go through an expensive and lengthy process to fight for what's mine.

So after the initial anger period which I kept to myself, I faced up to the fact that business is business and no one ever said it was to operate on ethical lines, even though I hold certain business/personal principals myself.

The upshot is, rather than go to the courts to fight which would cost more than I have and probably take 5 years to get a result, I made the decision to swallow my pride and become the first licensed reseller for the entity I was involved in (in an amicable manner).

This may seem soft but there are a couple of key points that, Oliver, you might want to take on board for what they're worth:

1. When shafted, keep your anger quiet and cool off for a bit.
2. Forget thinking people are ethical or judging them by your own standards, and
3. Before acting, maybe try and really think hard about the best way to get a result for yourself out of a bad situation.

@140 (it's very boring)

To answer your question, I was never technically let go. The closest thing to letting me go was when Sam posted the following remark on the Blognation Group Chat on Skype:

Sam Sethi
11/24/07 9:49 AM
@oliver I have responded to all of your thoughtful emails. As we have discussed I think it best we part company and agree full and final payment. I would ask you to leave this skype channel rather than block you.

First, he never responded to my emails, second we haven't had any discussion whatsoever, third he hasn't even acknowledged the invoice I sent and finally and most important, not only is this not a clear termination (and since when does a blogger get terminated from a blogging network and keep his credentials), but it is not even a proper notice as defined in my contract which itself lacks a termination clause.

On the other hand, the reason that I pointed out Sam's failure to respond as promised relates to the many situations (like the one below to illustrate the facts) that Sam has frequently promised to do things (like email or send money) and simply not done them.

Oliver Starr "stitch"
11/18/07 1:30 PM
anyone received that email from Sam?
Sam Sethi
11/18/07 1:31 PM
"that" email will be with everyone tonight
Oliver Starr "stitch"
11/18/07 1:32 PM
Then why did you say this? Sam Sethi
12:36 PM
not yet robin sending now

As you can see, he clearly said "sending now" on the 18th of Nov at 12:36 PM and that message is yet to arrive...

You can infer from that what you will, but I have plenty of evidence to support everything I have said and more.

Before I saw Oliver's comment (@ 51), I went to the blognation US site after reading Sam's posting (@25). I also questioned how he could have talked to Marc when he had that heart attack in the morning and was "not expected to regain consciousness for the next 24 to 48 hours." That is odd, makes the conversation btwn Marc and Sam very questionable.

I was introduced to TC about 2 years ago, by my boss, since I was more technically oriented and downright oblivious to the actual Web 2.0 community online. I must admit, I got hooked up and liked the articles, reading it every day very. I also must admit that I will be no longer reading it, thus un-subscribing. In the past months, it seems the majority of posts have been

- blatant advertisements
- deadpool posts with Arrington saying "I told you so"
- how easy it is to download movies / music
- how awesome Le Web is
- how bad Sam Sethi is

To be honest, you kinda drew the line when you posted his private emails on the site. I dont even know the guy but this is unacceptable. You are all grown up men, solve it in a mature way - at the end of the day, go to court. But wait, sorry, you cant go to court, cause this is just grown men doing a small soap opera. I hope most of you go down when the bubble bursts, cause you are completely unethical and unprofessional.

Oliver "As of 11:25 PM Pacific on December the 5th I am still waiting for Sam’s promised response on Blognation."

This just shows what kind of person you are. Does Sam need to respond immediately to your letter. He said he will respond, not today, not right now, Give the man a bit of time.

Can you tell us all for the record when is it (date) that you were let go ?
