Bubble 2.0: The Video

blog, blog, blog it all
blog it if it’s big or small

…blog even if you’re wrong
won’t you blog about this song?

How could we not? A perfect link-bait video, and it is pretty funny too (Here Comes Another Bubble). Update: Looks like the video was taken down because of a copyright notice sent to YouTube, which seems weird since it is obviously a parody and thus should fall under fair use.

Update (Nick): The video has been uploaded again. Gotta love that copyright protection system they have in place (update: taken down again). Perhaps you were lucky enough to capture the video using out YouTube download tool.

Yahoo has a copy too, though.

Update (Nick):And it’s back up on YouTube. Appears “take down and stay down” still isn’t in effect.

Still, a lot of sites are not covered by TC.. should cover many more.. /ac.

  2. Everett

Awesome and not a bad voice ;)

  3. Hornswaggled

Yeah that was funny. Pretty much sums up the current atmosphere.

  4. btw

    great. i love it.
i played it in slow motion and drop down all the notes.

btw, i really hate the arrogance or Mark Z. Primary asset, able to steal ideas.

  5. btw

MA, i believe you are blogging 55% right, if you get rid of the remaining fb coverage. you will get 95% right.

  6. Sean

    Good parody :)

  7. Faramarz

hahah very catchy! let the bubble burst and clean out this ecosystem we’re in.

  8. Derrick

Is that opening screen cap on the video a coincidence?

  9. Yella

    Great, like it.

  10. Dimitry Z.

Thanks for posting this, Erick. Great Song.

  11. java user

awesome production quality and witty lyrics.

  12. Sipboy

Very funny! I like it. At you guys at TC have a sense of humor unlike others. I still think you guys could cover more companies. I get enough of Facebook. I originally got hooked on this site because it would always provide me with new and exciting developments from many places. Sometimes, I think you guys cover the big boys too much. I would like to see more info on emerging markets.

  13. Daniel Thomaser

    made my day

    can’t stop singing it!

  14. Dave

friendship bracelets + newspapers…..with all seriousness, I’m intrigued. Anyone else feel the same way?

  15. damon

loved it, made my day, shite, they stole my bracelet idea though!

  16. UberInvestor.com

Good One! Reminds me of the dot com days. Even with the the entire Web 2.0 hype, the craze is still not as much as it was during the dot com bubble.

  17. James Currier

The creative genius behind this video is Matt Hempey http://www.hempey.com/.

  18. Serkan

    I love this song!

  19. fede

    Rocks!

  20. Overuse Bubble

This bubble is almost at the popping stage. We are so close…. 2008 might be 2000 in repeat. One last blowoff bubble top and then down we go.

  21. Stanley Miller

That is classic! Definitely tops my “Mini Rock Opera for Entrepreneurs Vol.1″ track listing at http://www.DixieTheDog.com

  22. David Litsky

It’s been bubble time since the early summer when the severity of the subprime mortgage and resulting credit crunch was realized.

  23. Webomatica

As the video continues you can tell the creator really does follow all this stuff. An entire verse devoted to the meta ridiculousness of blogs, Scoble’s white board presentation, and a LOLcat in a server, specifically the one that shows up when Twitter has problems. Thumbs up.

  24. iMarketingGuru

lol There may not be a Bubble this time, the web is suddenly changing with money exchanging hands everywhere. The web is run by money spent via advertising by other companies - if this proves to be profitable to all companies and more companies keep joining in the fray with the network of the web growing, I think that the bubble won’t ever burst for there is far too much going into the web.

The first bubble burst resulted due to the fact that no money was being made - money IS being made and TechCrunch needs to be come the site/company profiling agent of every company out there with full reports and articles. There is so much open to TechCrunch as well as most sites out there - there just needs to be more blogged about and not too many copiers. The internet will grow and grow but according to the long tail, everyone receives some form of attention - Getting above that barrier is a pain in the ass though.

  25. Bernie Lomax

I haven’t laughed that hard since my cubemate told me, “Don’t worry, I’m not doing any of this to help you out.” Bubble or not, ride the wave and make some cash money.

  26. Reality Check

But it ain’t a “tech bubble” per se. Just dont let twall street invest in BS like FB and other non-revenue backed ventures (eg. unworthy mortgage borrowers).

If your business is monetized on adsense, has some IP, and is cheap to operate, you will be fine (YOU NEED ALL 3!)

Otherwise find something else to do….

  27. Alex

    Awesome!

  28. Darren

I love it, I laughed out very loud a few times.

  29. D

I wouldn’t call it a “bubble” as there is no stock market to crash.

I would call it “market saturation”.

Investors get bored of seeing the same old krap presented to them etc..

  30. dev

    lol… then lol again :)

  31. Corey

Great video! I watched it a few times and laughed every time!

  32. JT

Any place we can download an mp3 of the song?

  33. Jon

Haha! This was simply brilliant. Techcrunch, you should front page/top this post for a while, it really sums things up well.

  34. Trigeia

i want a piece of this pie. this is a great video. Funny Funny Funny!!!!
i am trying to jump on the wagon hopefully their is still an opportunity

  37. Nikolay Kolev

Brilliant video! Both funny and sad!

  38. Elise Ackerman

    That is clever.

  39. Rick Breslin

Brilliant. How long did it take to compile all those logos at 0:12?

  40. Jeff O'Hara

This round, only the vc’s are going to lose. The market is going to be saturated for a while, it’s too cheap to start an internet company these days.

  41. Stan Oleynick

    Very cool!!

  42. iHero

I love the part about the company names.

  43. MDH

“This bubble is almost at the popping stage. We are so close…. 2008 might be 2000 in repeat. One last blowoff bubble top and then down we go.”

It’s farther from 2000 than it seems, I thought the same thing:

    http://www.v10partners.com/v10.....bubbl.html

  44. Miley Cyrus

This year, 4.5Billion has been invested. This means that it would take 6 Youtube’s (assuming VC’s stake is 50%) to just return the money, and that’s without the “5x” Do you think there were 6 Youtube’s founded this year? Or perhaps facebook alone will cover this? lol

  45. Joe

Too funny! Some won’t be laughing soon enough.

  46. IF No 1 Clicks

FFS. what would happen if no one clicked thru, we all would not sell anything… then only Goog would make money………..
Oh thats right that is what it happening. Now That is a Bubble.
Stop Middle America from clicking thru and the internet is dead?

  47. Michael Arrington

    that was really funny.

  48. Josh Buckley

    HAHAHA! I love it!!

  49. felix

Awesome !!! even though only some parts

  50. Ilan

    hehe

  51. Duncan Riley

    clever + funny.

  52. Jeremy Chone

  53. Otto Othman

    That was awesome!!!!! lolololol

  54. VPZONE

too good.. after a long time something that you connect back (and forward) so easily. Need to see it few more times and it’s going to be in my Ipode downloaded video archives..

We didn’t start the fire…was my song of my generation.. we could swear by it.. this is even better or seems to follow the space i live in..

whoever did this - is no ameature - if s/he’s - we will have even better stuff in future.. need to find out who did this

  55. Jon

  63. chrisco

finally got around to watching this… awesome!

  64. D

Online advertizing is just a giant vacuum exploring people’s furniture cushions. Real $$$ is made by becoming a broker, and even then it is only temporary. Click-thru is a joke.

  65. Alex Linhares

Anyone has seen the video elsewhere? Gone from youtube, not in undeletube either…

  66. Todd Santoro

I was on Wall St. for the 1st bubble and this era is different because private money is funding a majority of these web 2.0 businesses.

  67. Coupons

Very, very good video. My congratulations. Sometimes I had to pause it :)
Comparing Facebook with Ford was nice, and we really don’t know the future :p
