Oh... and wikivorce.com cost less than $1000 to build using open source software.

So the investment in D360 is 2500 times that in Wikivorce.

The D360 guys better have some good revenue generating ideas!!

They need to take a look at divorcesource.com, old technology yes,
but crammed with revenue generators.

Just for info this is not new in that there is a 9 mth old UK site www.wikivorce.com in exactly this space.

Wikivorce I would say is more of a visible interactive community with a real wealth of divorce info.

Divorce360 risks being just an online magazine that suffers the same fate as insidedivorce.com in the UK - which blew its funds on advertsising over 2 months then has since died a slow death.

"There just isn’t a lot of info out there, especially for guys"

Ya, here is all you need as a guy, keep your money away from your wife, don't disclose yur wealth, don't sign credit cards for her.

And after you get a divorce go fuck something, whatever it is.

As much as we all wish divorce wasn't a reality, it is. It's a great resource and one I'd use should the tragedy transpire.

Now, if only I had 2.6 M to put into my site. How'd you fellows do that?

I disagree about needing separate male/female sites - women end up caring for heartbroken men too! and I know it works the other way because is was a man who coached my mom through hers...maybe one section for adults and another for kids?

As for the site itself, I love it - even if you're just putting a toe in the water, there's an entry point. I'm most grateful because it gives me a place to send two friends who, years after the fact, are still obsessed by their divorces!!! That "Moving On" section is great for helping them get over it - I know because I've gotten all the questions that section answers...

A website like this is very much needed, but a number of you make excellent points. It needs experts to write it, and someone who truly understands the users experience. I very much feel someone 'had an idea', but this site does not execute well at all. The home page alone, is a navigational eyesore and nightmare. Where do I look? Nothing is logical. Those big numbers are ridiculous. Some pointing out blocks of content, others advertising...yikes!

Someone said, 'hey, here's 20% of the things a soon-to-be divorcee goes through, let's throw them up on the front page randomly'. They're missing UI 101...Divorce is very complicated...at least in the US. They need to define their persona's, the various stages of their persona's, and then all of the issues that one deals with over time. Elements of personalization would be very helpful here too. ie, one just starting the process, vs. one in the middle of divorce, or one who has been divorced for a few years, all have different needs.

I realize many of you make light of this topic, however, as a single working Mom, with 2 children...and been divorced for 6.5 years, I can tell you, it's not easy, and it doesn't get easier. You just manage.

I have helped many with their divorce questions, as they've seen me go through it and succeed, to whatever degree one can say they've 'succeeded'.

This resource is needed. It's a pure shame when people get $2.5M and don't do their fundamental research and execute properly. And what's up with a man who's never been divorced running it?

@Yuri Ammosov
I believe the laws on divorce are a state issue just like marriages are. The majority of states if not all have what are called no fault divorce laws. As for the cost I cannot comment. I imagine that if the lawyer involvement can be minimized then it wouldn't cost too much.

This is a great post and very interesting ideas, I like the idea for the website as well... communication is the key in relationships and marriage but especially in the divorce.

Thanks,

D360: "Hi Mr. Angel. Can I haz $2.5 mil to hire some Bulgarians on eLance to make me a Web 2.0-riffic scrapesite in the colors of last year's Ikea catalog?"

VC: "That depends...what original idea for revenue generation will $2,5 mil get me?"

D360: "Um.....AdSense?"

VC: "Well, if you throw in banners for mortgage brokers, you've got yourself a deal. One rule, though: it's got to look like every other 2.0 site. No Purple Cows allowed."

D360: "Pwnd."

BTW, if you need separate sites for men and women, I'll "niche it down" one further: <a href="http://www.dadsnewplace.com/" rel="nofollow">Dad's New Place</a>.

blah, the quick/simple divorce market was settled ten years ago, but it only works when both parties think the divorce should be quick and simple. otherwise it is off to the lawyers you go.

Quite obviously, Divorce360 is a blatant rip-off of a concept that was conceived <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/planspark/293982775/" rel="nofollow">over a year ago</a>:

"<b>Donut Divorve -- Let's make divorce a spectator sport!</b> Divorces are usually very time-consuming, costly and not a lot of fun. Donut Divorce wants you to be able to get a divorce in the time it takes to buy a donut. It's an online service. Both parties can invite all their friends and family to help duke out the details of the split. Donut Divorce makes money by taking 10 percent of any settlement that's reached, which -- in part -- will be redistributed among the contributors. Of course, there's point rewards and reputation systems and lots of web 2.0 bells an whistles."
