PopSnap: Sarah Meyers’ Live Online TV Show

Michael Arrington

I first met Sarah Meyers when she crashed our 2006 party at August Capital. She was booted, but got enough video footage to make this video. This year she was back at the party, but as an invitee - see one of her videos here.

Meyers now lives in New York, and has been working on a new live daily tech show. It hasn’t officially launched, but her first shows started streaming earlier this week at PopSnap.net.

The show shows live daily. A time will eventually be nailed down, she says, but for now you have to check the calendar (powered by 30Boxes) to see exactly when it goes on the air. When the show is not being shown live, the last show is played on a loop. Eventually, clicking on the video will start it from the beginning.

Users can comment on the show via an embedded meebo chat widget. The show itself is powered by Mogulus, a live streaming video startup we covered back in June.

The show is clearly still working through some kinks, so be kind. But Sarah’s charisma comes out strongly in these first few episodes, and it’s clear that she will have a large following of loyal viewers.

Check out the show now and give your feedback through the chat widget. The site will officially launch in December, and archives will become available then. We are going to be one of the charter sponsors of the show.

Update:
Well, she shut the site down.

Michael, I mean no harm to Sarah but, come on, this is currently a terrible site and performance. Why review it in this state?

There are certainly better videobloggers covering the tech world worthy of a TechCrunch mention, especially with the unusual Arrington softness you use in this article.

@2, Anon…i’d have to agree, it is rather terrible.

but for what it’s worth - sarah is a fox

Another reason why TC continues to lose favor with me…

I miss the days this was a serious tech blog…

The site isn’t even live yet, I got there only to be turned away, and it sounds like Sarah was pretty thrown off guard by having been linked days after getting the site online.

Next time send roses?

stop being a bunch of whiney bags. sarah clawed her way to the top, damnit.

you’re just jealous because she’s pretty and michael knows her and you don’t.

i bet if she did the show topless you wouldn’t have a single complaint.

Mike,

I must scorn you though because you’re link didn’t open up a new window. it made me leave my beloved techcrunch site. and that really pisses me off.

sweet dreams,
angela hayden
art goddess

la la la

I’m sure it will be an informative, intelligent show. Best of luck to Sarah and Techcrunch.

haha.. you guys kill me… even though tc is very popular, its still a blog, which means they can talk about whatever they want. Get over yourselves. Keep up the good work Sarah.

If she does do a show while being topless, she should be breast feeding her baby. The baby could look at the audience and say, - my titty!

Oh, how man has hungered for the return of the breast. The feeling of comfort from long ago when mommy was breast feeding them.

america is so wonderful and full of such love.

I don’t know how to say this. but… uhm….Did she gain weight??

Luckily, I’m not married I can finish my startup without having screaming kids and waste lot of car gas.

Mike, i am eager to view the site as soon as i can, but foe the original site i can not view it fluent and anything you can do to heip me to enjoy this it?

Sarah is amazing, she is both smart and beautiful. Whoever said something about being fat clearly never met her. While you may have a crush on her and wish she is topless alas she is not. Sarah is becoming one of most well known personalities in our little tech world so please don’t hate - because even though some of you are a-holes, she doesn’t hate you!

I hit the link and it brought me to an homely, invite-only, closed alpha website. Was that intended? Also, more importantly, on her wordpress, she calls TC a sponsor without qualifying that. Is that a financial relationship — one that should be disclosed, whether or not it’s tentative?

Sarah’s videos are clearly not as ‘polished’ as some, but her charismatic presentations are what ‘will’ bring her the maximum success she richly deserves.
This young lady has more guts and determination than most so-called ‘Professionals’ have.

Cheers,

pete.

Denny, it was disclosed above. All we are doing is paying her a monthly fee to be a sponsor and get our logo on the site.

Booted from the party then given a break ,good luck Sarah , nice human touch TC.

1. be a decent looking woman
2. with little or no talent on-camera talent, create an online tech tv show
3. ….. with arrington
4. tc is now a sponsor
4. profit?

stop bragging about your conquests in your tech blag :p

Yea she made you all look very silly when you booted her! lol, I’ve been a fan of her since.

you guys can check out the show on http://www.mogulus.com/popsnap as well!

Not my kind of thing but could be a winner.

Let’s hope she doesn’t sign any tv deals and kill her career.

First of all, Sarah is not pretty. Michael I hate to see that Techcrunch is reviewing such sites. Sarah is a newbie and just started by gatecrashing the techcrunch party. Now she gets an invitation and reviewed on the site. Ridiculous.

I’ve known Sarah for quite some time now and I think she is really talented actually.

She’s hilarious — if you didn’t watch her videos from the old days you don’t know what I mean. Only people without a sense of humor wouldn’t laugh at some of her antics. Not only is she funny, but she has a great head on her shoulders and she is definitely going to make it. Mark my words. She has serious guts, and she gets stuff done, on her own, with a low budget. She is going to go places in life.

Oh, and for the creeps on this board who would stoop so low as to criticize her looks — you obviously haven’t met her in person — she is really pretty actually. Definitely pretty enough for TV, and frankly, way too pretty for this pathetically geeky industry! The photos don’t do her justice. But frankly, I don’t see why that is even relevant.

It really pisses me off to see people in this industry being so crass and sexist. Seriously. Learn some respect or at the very least act like the gentlemen you supposedly are (or gentlewomen perhaps).

Sarah’s show is pretty awesome. I think she’s done a great job leveraging interesting content over her good looks to create a show that is actually _interesting_ to watch, and isn’t just another blond chick using her beauty to attract viewers. Kudos to you, Sarah!

wowee, you comment trolls hating on sarah are more pretentious than any content creator could ever aspire to be. i’m guessing that just about zero of you haters have your own show worthy of any small fragment of this scrutiny. why don’t you all run along now and go diss a three star restaurant at yelp! or something.

Sorry, Sarah is terrible when it comes to being a online celeb she’s inexperienced and she isn’t a pretty face, she has a small fallowing that is keeping her out there, but it’s dying down more and more every day. Like all internet fads they die off, prove to me you aren’t one that expired months ago and you will gain my respect till then, enjoy your sinking ship.

Sarah is one of the best people you can find to keep pace with and promote our industry. A start-up herself, she knows what is going on and can raise awareness where it is meant to be with the new media techniques that push the envelop. There is no doubt that she is the personality to watch and follow as the new Web evolves. Go Sarah!

Until you have produced, written, directed, and acted in your own show - your “advice/critique” means jack shit. It is sooo funny to hear people without any internet show experience or knowledge force their own opinions.

Sarah,
Listen to those around you that can give you worthy advice instead of the billy-bob nerd that still lives in his mother’s basement.

@Dori- lol. I see you signed up for Alpha. Look forward to seeing you in the chat on Monday’s show.

People who criticize tend to be people that can’t create, and so are jealous of anybody, like Sarah, with guts and determination. who has the creative gene.

Everybody has to learn, and if you people actually watched the show instead of just trolling you’d know it gets 100% better each episode and is assured to be a success.

Sarah has substantial experience covering tech, and is the very definition of a new media pioneer. For example, lookup ‘lifecasting’ on wikipedia and you’ll get her picture!

Andy.

@Dori: “Until you have produced, written, directed, and acted in your own show - your ‘advice/critique’ means jack shit.”

I support Sarah in her new venture — but if your comment’s true, America’s only trustworthy film critics are Kevin Costner, Mel Gibson and the ghost of Orson Welles.

Having met and talked extensively with Sarah and watched her in action, I can say that I will not be surprised when she makes it big. There is a very intelligent and ambitious personality behind the looks. I expect very interesting things from her going forward.

Sarah worked hard to get were she is now, I’m sure the day when she makes it big is just around the corner. Plus she’s a babe, just look at those lips. Just watching her talk is hot, it plays into the whole idea of a hot teacher and a wide-eyed student scenario.

While the show has it problems the production values and the content is greatly improved. But the best part is that Sarah works the production, content, and advancing where the future of social media will be heading. This is not just a tech show - it advancing a trend to what can be! Hats off to Sarah for working so hard but still being great to listen to.

Keep up the hard work!

The show still needs a lot of work and I appreciate all the constructive feedback. Looking forward to the launch.

Just keep pushing forward Sarah. The sad thing is that typically people who are the first to be critical of your entrepreneurial spirit are often the least entrepreneurial. So just don’t them ever get to you. I look forward to seeing what you put together in the future — I know it’ll be great!

Hey Sarah,

Congratulations!!!!! I can hardly wait to see what you will do with this venue.
I love your determination and think you will really go places. Work hard it is worth it. You always work twice as hard as any one else. You will make it BIG!!!

@Alex and Janine- I’m so happy to see you two found this article. I happened to find your comment on Google blog search and just want to say that you two are true entrePs and I wouldn’t be able to do it with out your support. Thanks for signing up for the Alpha on Popsnap.net. See you there!
