This means that their anti-piracy organization must know which file is illegal. I have no doubt that some artists distribute their music on P2P.

Here's what you do, Frenchmen-- download stuff LEGALLY using P2P, and sue the government when they take away your internet. I doubt they will know every file that's legal/illegal.

What has events in 18th century America got to do with this?? We all know the French resent the dominance of both the USA and of the use of English globally. At the end of the day unless they personally come round and take a sledgehammer to my PC i will continue to DL. Until it's a physical impossibility that is.

Oh come on guys, stop the bullshit ! They don't say "cut all p2p"... they give you warnings if you keep downloading copyrighted stuff, and then it takes THREE warnings before they cut temporarely your Internet access. That's a far cry from the RIAA sadists..

Gaaaaa stop bullshiting !

P2P is and will be perfectly legal.

It's the SHARING of a copyrighted movie/album which is illegal !

And as PAO said, it is just a proposition, not a law. NO, we are not the kind of following crowd : just wait and see, and if it eventualy comes to a law, let's find a way to avoid it. That's french mentality :)

Like another pple said, we still have the right for "copie privée" which autorizes us to make a backup of a TV/radio program for a private use : downloading is not illegal, sharing copyrighted materials and allowing it to be downloaded from your computer is.
So don't be stupid and think about all the easy ways we have to get free music... (but more and more, majors are trying to remove this RIGHT, this is where we have to fight)

By the way, now I earn a salary I just buy the music I like... do the same and try to buy it directly from your favorite band's website, avoid Virgin wallmart, universal and all those bloodsuckers !

Think of the example of radiohead : they just let customers give whatever they want. Result : an average of 3 dollars only for an entire album, but it's still two dollars more than what they used get from their major ! (litle less than one dollar by album).

Good point for oliviennes (CEO of the FNAC Group and main contributor to this report) : his decision to remove DRM and encourage legal downloading. With a little help, most artists will directly sell their music on the net and f*ck them all)

Choice is quite simple for them : go with a major and get all the buzz over TV and radios with a huge promotional budget, or sell by themselve on Internet...

As a conclusion and just for the two dickheads talking about all the french military history cliche, what was the last war won by the US ? Afghanistan, a victory, with talibans coming back ? irak ? Vietnam ? And just think about the REASONS why USA went into war with those countries... Be carrefull Godwin is not far....

P2P live streaming has been officially enhanced by Chinese government since the begginning of 2007. As you see http://nba.sports.cctv.com/01/index.shtml, people could enjoy NBA matchs online with p2p enpowered system from Koos ltd., a small company in west China.

It was predicted, In 2008, hundreds of Olympic matchs will be shown in CCTV.com by P2P streaming system with millions of users online simultaneously. Maybe that is the time for people to see P2P application by media industry.

--CCTV.com, as the name China Central TV station, is the majoy TV network in China with 75% the civil market.

In France, there is already a tax for all electronic storage devices including hard drive, usb keys, CD's and DVD's which is paid to the artists. I think they assume that there will be a % of illegal files on these systems. Too bad for people that just burn their holliday photos and videos.

First of all, punishing P2P users has nothing to do with artists' rights. Rather, it is pathetic scare tactics from an industry quickly losing its market. If anything, P2P users are accelerating market reform, something that will ultimately work in the favor of artists. Furthermore, if my brief time in France is anything to go by, then this case is very far from over: the people simply won't have it.

OMG!
Hope other governments doesn´t follow this execrable example! I really hope that this move alone, make Sarkozy´s political points go down abruptly.
Happily, we will not have to wait very long when the new "High Tech Scarlet Pimpernel" appears, and made available an easy way to avoid P2P activity detection.
France is no longer a good example of Republic, isn´t it?
