I love divshare, it’s the best, easiest to use and fast file hosting service they use. Too bad that they killed “groups” feature but love them anyway. Plus it’s addicting.

I hope it’s just a rumour because this site is too good to be gone.

On the other hand i don’t believe they would stop doing work and just close with all those files stored there.

Don’t carve that gravestone just yet.

I’ve spent time with both founders, and they are technologically deep and serious about this space.

We’ve been working with them since February, and they have addressed every feature and API request we’ve needed to date.

In spoke with Rob (DivShare’s cofounder) and they are making enough cashflow to keep up with growth, and have excellent upside.

Just because they want to capitalize on their fast growth and early success doesn’t mean they are in trouble.

They might just be smart enough to know where they rock. And where they don’t.

I would say the old divshare (free file hosting) is most similar to http://www.filebam.com and the newer divshare model (embeddable widgets) most similar to http://www.box.net Thats just based on my own experience.

I agree its either a pr stunt or fake — no way would a company like divshare would just post a for sale on a forum and not mention it on there blog.

Lets hope thats the case. Could be a major flaw in Divshares current business model — namely the high cost of streaming/embedding without the tools to advertise on that content. Divshares 200k users are most likely free users who are not subscribed (just check out where a majority of their traffic is coming from: hk, thailand, brazil, chile, based on alexa).

Professional Media and Document Sharing is great but needs some capital to maintain and grow (adsense wont cut it — boosting subscriptions would help) — box.net should buy them out since they have a strong backing.

my .02 — tracking this day by day as it intrigues me.

I don’t see this as real. I don’t see why they wouldn’t post a comment on their blog about a possible sale if it was anything other than a publicity stunt or a fake.

Box.net is one alternative and they are fantastic (although offer a lot less for free than Divshare does, but I just got a free upgrade through TrialPay).

MediaFire is another alternative and offers unlimited files and bandwidth for free. They had a serious amount of downtime a couple of days ago though…

I am waiting in anticipation for OrbitFiles. 2.0

I’ve been using DivShare for a long time. Yes, they have minor connectivty/speed issues here and there but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad service.

I love using DivShare to host streaming music files on my site. In light of this post I should probably be considering other options, although it’s hard for me to believe someone would just kill the site/service upon purchasing it.

I have been pretty happy with the service, but only as it relates to the embeddable streaming music player.

This Deadpool call seems a tad premature.

Ive been watching these guys for a while, and while they might have seemed great on paper, to actual users there were some serious problems. Each blog post they made had users complaining about upload issues and speed problems. Just curious Mike if you guys read company blogs to check out user comments. Even posts about random features they would add had people slamming the company for not focusing on bread and butter issues of being a hosting company. Users like myself loved the ease of use and features, but you cant be a hosting company and have speed and upload issues and expect to stick around.

But seriously, it amazes me that the new web 2.0 companies still need high $$$$$$$ investments with all the resources like servers, bandwidth, etc getting cheap. I really don’t see the reason to move to the Silicon Valley with my startup, unless I am looking to sell or just shmooze with the Big Money Men. I am fine right here in San Antonio.
