AJT, if you are having issues on FireFox only, you can still install the latest version of the plugin and just disable it from Firefox directly (Tools>>Addons>>Disable). Works for me, and I just remember to use IE when shopping!

I installed the new plug-in and Firefox stopped working. I have Vista and IE 7 and something shuts down Firefox. I uninstalled the plug-in and Firefox works again. I emailed PayPal about the problem and all they gave me are system requirements which don't mention Vista.

I also asked them how to get back to the original Beta version because it worked with Vista and IE 7. So far, nothing back from PayPal. I even tried moving the original Beta version from my old PC with no luck.

Honestly, it's a good news but it doesn't impress me much. Atleast as on now. Probably they are too late on this thing.
As Mike said, it's only available for US citizens. I being a non US citizen will have to wait for more days. Until and unless i experience it myself, i don't think i will be able to judge whether it's a good move or not. Ty

To JustMo..If it's a credit card it can be used anywhere credit cards are accepted. So if you want to buy something on a Australian site you can, just like you would with a normal credit card.

This Virtual Card is a whole new dimension on what was there before, anyone who was familiar with old product and uses this new one can see that. This isn't just about allowing your PayPal account to be used all over the place, it's also about making the experience of shopping that much easier and more secure. Hats Off to PayPal...more please

At least MBNA's ShopSafe card (now owned by BofA) gave you points whether you used a throwaway number or not. But last time I used the Paypal secure number (about one year ago), I did not get my 1.5% (I'm grandfathered in) cash back.

For those of you planning on using this feature, please pad your upper charge amount a little bit. For example, if your order total is $40, make your limit $100 instead of $50. If you end up changing your shipping method or adding other items, the higher limit offers you and the merchant some flexibility.

@Keith Kamisugi: Neither does Citi/Discover work all the time.

@mint question: Firefox addon works fine... The only problem is that similarly to other plugins hated by designers, PayPal changes the original presentation of webpages - changes the styling of controls (Text Areas, Text Inputs, Selects, etc.). What's surprising is that it's not intelligent enough and it incorrectly recognizes fields that have nothing to do with its autofill feature as such - it's annoying. On top of that, it changes the tooltips for those fields.

"I had to disable the PayPal Plug-In shortly after installation as it kills IE 7 - every time you try to close a tab it raises an error and kills all windows of IE (still, the process stays alive). I can only hope that this is all due to the fact t
that most QA effort was focused on security, not overall quality. :-)"

After reading that, I would try installing it only on ffox. if it doesnt let you do that, then like this guy said, disable it in IE and stick to using it ffox. for those who want to try it I mean.

I've been using PayPal's virtual debit card for quite some time. It works well, but not 100 percent of the time.

Virtual card numbers are the only safe way to shop online - I've been using them via Citibank for years.

But talk about security - I've seen a <a href="http://www.zoliblog.com/2007/11/18/blog-tracking-services-compromise-online-bank-security/" rel="nofollow">chilling warning</a> on the Citi site. I have no idea how real a threat it represents...
