Want To Go To LeWeb For Free?
by Michael Arrington on November 4, 2007

If you haven’t bought a ticket yet for the LeWeb conference in Paris this December 11 & 12, you can still get a 100€ discount from the normal price. I’ll be there, speaking on two or three panels and look forward to seeing everyone.

Loic Le Meur has also offered two free tickets to TechCrunch readers. You’ll have to get to Paris and pay for a hotel on your dime, but you won’t have to pay or the conference itself. If you’d like to win one of the tickets, please leave a comment below saying what you think you’ll get out of the event, and Loic and I will pick two winners. Just make sure you leave your real email address in the form.

There are now more nearly 750 people registered for the event from more than 30 countries (see if your friends are going here). Le Meur says he expect 1,300 or more people at LeWeb, which makes it the largest web conference in Europe.

If I am chosen I will get what I get from all the other conferences- swag! Let’s not ask what Le Web can do for you and ask what you can do for Le Web. (I’ll give Le Web the best coverage)

It’s a bit of a coincidence, but I’m in Paris on those days, with another person who’d be interested, and have accommodation sorted, and nothing else to do! Plus I’d quite like to go, really.

I promise to cheer after your talk, too.

ps: sorry for using french

Sorry but a made a mistake in the email. This is the right one

As the founder of a UK based startup-on-a-shoestring going live shortly with big ambitions, it’s pretty easy to see what I’d get out of it.

Specifically - listening to the great and good of the industry impart their knowledge, experience and opinions on the pertinent issues of the day. In other words; a hike up on the shoulders of giants.

Plus a great opportunity to meet others in my position from across Europe and beyond.

Hi:

I am actually working with a couple of European organizations
on launching a “collaborative” (social) online high school - finally
introducing the required social element into the static/lonely
e-learning process. So this may give us an opportunity to push
the agenda further. Every high school student may also experience
an “international” component!

Well, even without a trip to Paris, this project is taking off - it may
not hurt! thanks.

The opportunity to go to Le Web would be amazing as it would give me the chance to investigate the possibility of launching a French version of my web app - wishli.st.

As a young entrepreneur from the UK it would be inspiring to meet a range of entrepreneurs, investors and other great people!

My vote (not that I have one) goes to Sarah… I’d like to see hot interviews like this :-)

Zoli - yeah well me too. But I have a funny feeling she could get a press pass. :-)

I am a french Israeli entrepreneur working on a startup that aim to empower small business and freelancers.

We’re on a mission to help smaller freelancers/business/entrepreneur get more productive and get more out of their operations.
We believe the future is in the young generation, We believe that by connecting the dots we can build something larger and better.

If I win, I will make sure to connect with as much as young entrepreneur I can, listen to their needs and improve our mission.

I will also make sure to network with other people and let people know that Israel isnt only about wars, sand and camels but rather its a highly productive country with a great deal of entrepreneurship and crazy ideas.

We’re on the map and we should use this energy to bring peace.

Yes! Speaking of swag, if I am chosen I will bring my own swag to give out and make “hot” swag videos like this: http://tinyurl.com/2lmvq3

I’ve been trying to spearhead implementation of more cutting-edge marketing and technology tools at my employer, a small software company. Although I’m reasonably on top of US market trends, I’m less up to date in what’s going on outside the USA, and that’s a problem, because more than half of our business happens overseas.

Going to LeWeb would make a big difference in my ability to be an internal Web 2.0 evangelist, as well as in understanding how to implement these tools in ways that our customers will appreciate.

If my employer were willing to pay for overseas travel, I wouldn’t have to ask here, but we’re a small company without a lot of budget for attending conferences. Plus, I’ve never been to Paris (except for changing planes at CDG, which doesn’t count). I’d love the chance to finally see it!

How can this be called a true european confrence on the web without someone from Iceland there?? Of course it cant!! I cant see a single person from Iceland registered, and for that sole reasone then I should be given the chance to go the confrence so I can give my fellow Icelandic people the news on the web of today. :)

Well if that isnt enough, then I am just starting my web company, should be live in december and am really running it on a shoe string so this would help us out alot. I am hoping this confrence will help us to stay a step ahead of the competion.

I’ll save the price of tickets, get to see Paris, practice my French… see what’s moving on the EU scene and make contactos…

le web ‘07 needs to learn about le apostrophe

so damn annoying

If I am chosen, I will get at least 1.5M EUR from investors who speak at your panels and who have already expressed serious interest in funding our company. If I am I able to raise more due to the excitement of the conference ambiance, our company will issue additional shares at the expense of the original shareholders which will equal the difference to our target capital raise (conference excitement capital premium) and split the shares among Mike and Loic.

I should go because you may not know me, but I am fairly important. ;-)

I was going to do a rival conference to LeWeb called LeWeb2.0 at around the same time. BUT: For a free pass, I’ll scrap that plan, enjoy LeWeb, do a choreographed dance, talk to potential investors, partners and channels for my new online platform and eat preposterous amounts of french food.

“LeWeb2.0 will die
If its Mike, Loic and I,
Meeting folks and doing deals,
With dancing, drinking and lavish meals” :)

Recently some of the best and most innovative new ideas covered by tech journals has come out or south or south-east asian entrepreneurs. The trouble is in how difficult it is for people from (literally) around the world to meet each other and connect to discover those ideas.

We are one such product company in stealth mode and have developed a product that helps teams maintain context of their projects (thats all I can tell you in comments, but email me if you need details).

Our product just won an award locally for “best general productivity application”, and we had planned on launching out of stealth right around the time of leWeb.

Trying to creative innovative product startups out of Asia can often mean that it becomes a lot more rare for us (at a much bigger cost) to be able to connect with influential bloggers such as yourself and exchange ideas from around the world.

I think LeWeb might be one of the best opportunities for us to be able to meet bloggers such as yourself, show them our product and get feedback from the number of experts who are likely to be present. We might also be able to launch at the conference itself. It really is the type of big break you could hope for.

In addition, I would also be able to provide you thoughts, perspectives and news about other interesting startups from our region, which we cover in a blog based magazine (linked).

Here’s hoping we can meet.

I’ve checked the whole participants list and found no one from Poland… Maybe someone should go then :) Someone should go to Paris, meet people, see what are the trends in the world, get new ideas, maybe find some partners who would like to invest on our growing market… and then go home and share the findings on one of the many “barcamp” meetings here… :)

Remember citizens, nothing in life is free.

LeWeb is the best event to meet people I’ve been emailing/talking with all year. I started tracking social media analysis services worldwide last December, and many of the companies are in Europe. Skype makes the work possible, but there’s no substitute for meeting people. And how better to get out of the US-centric echo chamber than to go to an event where Americans are in the minority?

Last year, I arrived at Le Web proudly as an employee of two sponsors - Orange and TechCrunch UK, but sadly returned to find myself only an employee of Orange, thanks to a bust up between Michael, Loic and Sam Sethi!

I’ve now also left Orange, so I have no rich sugar daddy to buy my pass…I’d love to come back and see everyone again :)

Oh yeh - as I lost my passport, I’m missing a speaking slot at Web2Expo in Berlin this Wednesday, so really you guys could turn my luck around ;)

I’m a professional gamer turned entrepreneur, by founding the worlds current number 1 professional gaming team (www.fnatic.com). I started it in 04 while doing a degree in the UK and it has been running successfully for 3 years albeit only breaking even (but i wasnt in it for the money it was and has been a pleasure to travel the world doing what i love!).

Having been involved in the upper end of the gaming market for a long time and having reached it through the grass roots (being a gamer), I’ve noticed many opportunities for business within gaming. To that end I have been working on building a social network targeted at (mainly) Online Gamers for the past year and secured Angel Round investment in May. The website http://www.ugame.net will go live in January and to that end i have set myself the task of familiarising my self with web start ups as much as i possibly can.

Being only 23, I know a lot about gaming but have tought myself everything i know about business and I am trying to learn alot more! My biggest weakness has been in the investment/start up world, thats why i feel i would not only bring something different to the table at Le Web but also learn a great deal. All in order to make destroying people with your thumbs a whole lote more connected!!

I’m based out of Southampton, UK, where we have rented the floor above an internet cafe! Check out pics here: http://www.fnatic.com/gallerie.....ISHED.html

P.s. I only recently discovered your blog.. and the whole tech blogosphere.. i used to simply read everything on news.bbc.co.uk/technology! Its refreshing to hear things in more gory details!

I will totally be there. This is too good to be truth. I already have a free ticket to Europe and I have family there so this will give be just perfect. Pick Me Mike

I am fourteen years old and own a tech-savvy website (trexic.net) so if I were picked, not only would I write a good post about this, but I would get a very good experience from it too. Pick me Mike!

Well, Let’s be realistic, if i had the money i would have come years before.
Secondly The focus of my new blog is the culture, and also the culture of internet. there’s major moves this year, and yet there’s a lot to come.

Since last year there were some many new major figures that have emerging on the web, Even if Myspace had exists for years, the socializing and open web is a fundamental new way to comunicate. proven by Linux but applied in social relationship. The presence of so many social networking evangelist and the way, the micromedia had change our lives ( mostly in techie world we have to admit ) and the evolution of Music industry are going to be treated by some of the major actors, I would’nt miss that…

So this is certain for me that this Conference will be… well.. very important..
Of course, my intention are to cover the conference despite the small amount of vistors on my website. I certainly will cover it on my blog, twitter and certainly seesmic.. yes i’m one of the 300.. I will cover with some interviews not because i’m invited but to democratize tools like twitter and this new kind of phylosophy that is coming thru..

Thanks for reading this rather long post, and excuse for my english.

I live in Glasgow Scotland if its the only way I can I will gladly drive my little Smart Car to Dover, jump on the ferry and head for Paris. Once there I shall shout Loic, Loic give me that Seesmic invite that I have been waiting ages on!

I also really want to meet Loic’s business partner who likes to dress up as a woman as he looks like hes up for a good time :)

Oh and the last time I was in Paris I was robbed and my Audi TT was stolen :(

Lastly there’s this really fit girl I fancy and she might just come with me

So to sum it up..

1) I meet Loic and his crazy partner
2) I might get a Seesmic invite
3) I overcome my fear of Paris
4) I get the girl (if not France has the hottest girls in Europe)

I am a university student with a desire to promote the web industries in Northern England.

At the moment I am trying to organise local group networks where developers, designers and entrepreneurs can come together and discuss new technologies and business ideas which I believe is essential in this fast paced industry that work live in.

I believe that attending an event like Le Web 3 will help my acquire new contacts from around the world to promote the skills of web designers, developers and entrepreneurs from the North of England.

An opportunity like this would also allow me to branch out and network with other groups from around the world who are in the similar situation with little or no devoted community unlike say that of San Francisco or London.

uhhh, cause I play Golf?

We’ll have the opportunity to share ideas and we’ll also get the best possible feedback on earth for our new website, Anywr.com (beta: http://beta.anywr.com/beta) from the very best in the Web industry.

You should give me the free ticket because I’ve been a TechCrunch reader for years…AND I just happen to be living and working 1.5 hrs from Paris these days. Not to mention, I’ll be the founder of a major startup within the next year, and I’ll stay loyal to TechCrunch :)

We would have something exciting to show everyone at leweb3, but frankly at the moment don’t have the cash to buy a ticket :-(

The life of a startup..

We’re building a service for planning travel and getting info on destinations and places. Apart from a bunch of travel sites, what’s different in our service is that it takes peoples preferences into account and can serve you recommendations on where to go and what to see that you most likely are interested in. Unfortunately it cannot give tickets to leweb3..

If I’m chosen, I’ll do my best to spread the word, network, present our new UI, that’s just coming out in the beginning of Dec and of course remember Loic/LeWeb3 and Michael/TC forever in our blogs.

Hello from France,

I would like to go to LeWeb3 for 3 main purposes:

- check new Cies or technologies who can have a market or impact for the Internet travel market (Travel 2.0)
- starting to built a bridge between Cies at LeWeb3 and my travel professional network (other leading travel marketing blog, top travel conference organizers, other professionals in the travel industry)
- have some fun and hope to learn interesting stuff

Best regards

Claude

As I see actually there’s one free ticket left over because Sarah takes one for sure…:-) From my side there’s nothing “hot” but as a co-founder of a hungarian startup I’m really interested what can I get out of LeWeb3. If I’m chosen that would be cool.

We want to do Le Web 3, Russian edition in St. Pete or Moscow next spring!

As a Hungarian student, it’s pretty obvious what I would get out of goint to Le Web. Even though Paris is not that long distance, I would never have the opportunity to go to such a prestisious conference about web trends, because of the price of the tickets. I would be stuck listening to third-grade retellings of O’Reilly’s original Web2.0 speech, accompanied by Michael Wesch’s obligatory video at local conferences. Seriously, it takes a long time for ideas to trickle down to companies here.

I promise to buy everyone at Techcrunch who I meet at Le Web a beer.

Hi,
I would like to be part of this event. I’ll be in Paris this day.

This ticket will improve my whole life (or at least the business and work part of it)

I will get from the conference:
- Meet other enterpreneurs and have great conversation with leading thinkers
- Implement all currently hyped ideas into our product (no seriously we are not going to do that)
- Enjoy Paris

And btw: I am working on a location based social network and mobile Web 2.0 startup, therefore I think I would greatly benefit from this event and could also contribute some interesting stuff to discussions.

I have submit my start up in leweb 3 but i cant afford to buy the ticket .I am a young Greek entrepreneur launching http://www.wishdone.com in the end of the year and wishing to change the social networking experience of the internet users. Are these enough reasons to pass me a free ticket?
P.S. i speak French also and this came as a gift from God to me.I totaly believe i will win the competition .You can support me!Thx!

I just read this article and i hope it is not too late…
I am a french student at ESCP-EAP and I am very interested in this conf but unfortunately i cannot afford the price of a ticket!!
I would be enlighted to meet your compliance.

Hi!
My name is Mariano. I am on the edge of deciding whether or not to leave my day job and give 100% of my time to a project I co-founded.

From the conference I believe I will get that final “boost of enthusiasm” to make the jump into the entrepreneurial world PLUS extra know-how and networking possibilities.

Specifically I would like to attend:
Personalization 2.0… 3.0 .. the projection of a personal image
Making things personal… investing
Evolving entrepreuership.

I can easily reach Paris but I can’t afford a ticket to the conference.

I’ll get the best ROI out of this!!
Best,

Mariano.

Don’t get me started on the FRENCH!
Well if you insist … the latest French thing with me? hmmmm ….
http://fakesteveballmer.blogspot.com
François Bancilhon, CEO of some little Linux company has written an open letter on his blog:
An open letter to Steve Ballmer
He accuses me of bribing the government of Nigeria into replacing their stupid little Mandrovia OS on an order of 17,000 computers with Windows! His deal was already complete, the computers being delivered to schools, the monies paid: when suddenly the Nigerians informed Francois that on delivery the hard-drives would be reformatted and Windows installed!

He rails: “Hey Steve, how do you feel looking at yourself in the mirror in the morning?”

Well Frenchy! I feel pretty good, pretty darned good indeed! I wake up with any of several different … never-mind. But, I am carried to the shower but my assistants, dressed, groomed and briefed every morning. I feel pretty good indeed!
I would normally ignore any such accusations from you people, but for some reason this one disturbed me, so I told legal to reply, this is their message:

“Microsoft strongly believes that individuals, governments and other organisations should be free to choose the software and other technologies that best meet their needs. We believe Microsoft offers the best overall option of value, integration, interoperability and support, without complexity or added dependency on services.”

In other words, it was our strong friendly relationships with certain key government officials, their families and knowledge of their personal “needs” that influenced these persons to scuttle your little OS on these computers. Thats just the way business is done Frenchy! If you can’t take the heat get out of the Smoke-hut!

I’m a student in IT, in Paris XI university, and unfortunately i can’t afford the price of the ticket (i’ve tried many things to perform it without success, including mailing Loic… :-) ), but i’m very interesting in web 2.0 revolution, in technologies of course, but most of all on its impact of the world dealing with information.

For me LeWeb3 conference deals with the true subjects, when seeing the subject as a revolution in behavior, a new step in democraty, and i want to be there to share on this and make this world more aware of its voice and capability !

Just check my blog for more information, there even is an ad for LeWeb3 conf… so i would like to be there, to be able to blog on it ! :-)

I’m a 21-year-old student in a French Business School (ESCEM) and I plan to launch my Internet start-up within 2 years.
I’m fond of IT innovations, especially in the Web industry. I spend a lot of time trying to detect marketing trends, to track initiatives, to discover demands that aren’t presently satisfied, and to test ideas.

As a member of the leweb3 Facebook group, I’ve discussed and followed discussions that led to the selected program. I’ve planned to attend the conference, but I regrettably had to give up because of financial reasons.

Because of my location (Poitiers, France), I haven’t many opportunities to meet professionals so I’m satisfied with reading blogs and surveys, watching or listening to podcasts, contacting some entrepreneurs… and keeping in touch with TechCrunch. I’ve a lot to learn from leweb3 lecturers, and many ideas to discuss with professionals.

I really hope your invitation will help me create my business, share ideas and - in the long-term - provide news to TC about great Internet innovations!

Thanks by advance.

TECHCRUNCH – I came up with three reasons why I could benefit most from attending the Le Web 3 conference

1) I’m a senior at Purdue University, studying entrepreneurship and finance. I’m really fascinated with how the internet, especially the Web 2.0 space is constantly innovating and expanding. By attending Le Web 3 I will have a chance to increase my knowledge and build relationships with some of the most significant individuals in the industry.

2) Currently I am working on an entry for Tech Stars 2008. Attending Le
Web 3 would be a great chance for my idea to mature into a viable entry. Attending the different workshops and speeches will help me garner a greater understanding of current market trends and new technologies.

3) Lastly, I think Le Web 3 will help compliment my future career goals/aspirations. This semester I am interning for a VC firm and I really enjoy having the chance to work within the technology/internet sector. I find a lot of pleasure in constantly being thrown new ideas and having to figure out which one could have a substantial market impact and create value for our portfolio. In the future, most likely after business school, I plan on pursuing a full time position with a VC firm.

All that’s left to do is kayak a flight and couchsurf a place to stay!

Thank you,
Blake Saunders

There are a lot of great entries in this post so it is going to be hard for Michael and Loic to choose. Anyways, here I go:

I am the founder of recently launched http://www.SmartRatings.com. A consumer research site that aggregates expert reviews and ratings in order to make product recommendations. I mostly would like to attend the event for the networking opportunities as they may help in our efforts to promote SmartRatings.com.

Before SmartRatings.com I was a VP at PriceGrabber.com, one of the leading shopping comparison sites. I was in charge of International Operations. I started working on SmartRatings after the company was sold to Experian Interactive.

I just created an entry in the review section of the Crunch Forums so if any person reading this has any feedback about SmartRatings.com I would really appreciate it. Techcrunch Forum Link

thank you,

Francisco Gimenez
SmartRatings.com

We would get the chance to go from being a project from students at Oxford University to having the best possible beta realease: at the biggest Web conference in Europe.
