Big Fat 404 Error At Hulu

Awww…their first outage. It’s more of a rite of passage than anything.
Newly launched Hulu is showing a big, fat 404 error on their home page right now. It’s too bad, because I’ve become somewhat hooked on it over the last few days. Despite my constant criticism over the summer, I really like the service they launched.
Hulu videos seem to be streaming just fine at AOL Video.
And since Hulu isn’t available anywhere except the U.S., being down in the middle of the night PST isn’t so bad. Let’s hope this billion dollar company can keep the light on, though, because we’re watching. And waiting.
Update: aaaaand they’re back. Up at 2 am PST, which means confirmed downtime was just one hour.

Something similar happened to Mahalo last week - Mahalo.com Screenshot
They had constant time outs the day they launched in private beta as well…although not that it matters to me greatly because when the site worked I still couldn’t watch the videos
hulu: “404 Not Found”
this post: “204 No Content”
i had streaming problems on day 1, although it could have been our network.
it’s “rite of passage”, right?
Good thing it happened at night, Nights are safer than days for outages, other wise the customers would be outraged.

IN PROCESS OF BEING FIXED!
Cut us some slack people, this stuff isn’t easy!

Whats the point of this? That a page has a 404? That a beta project has a 404?
Come on now, lets get the standard of the posts up because this is just silly.
When I went there, I got “Error 403 - Entertainment Not Found”
HULU is on Strike as of today by order of the Guild.
Duncan Riley Cheer up things will turn out OK. Michael Arrington yes things like that are to be Expected with a Project of this magnitude.: )
Wow, that was an amazing story… :\
It seems up now. May be midnight downtime. But it’s not good to see a 404 at home page. An Under maintenance file should do in most cases.

Guys, no need for sign-up or “private beta” watch NBC, FOX, CBS anc ABC shows online for free at http://www.tv3o.com.
“rite of passage” not a “right of passage”
The site is in beta, is this really worth mentioning?
>> Despite my constant criticism over the summer, I really like the service they launched.
Well at least you are honest that your criticism is based solely on the popular blogosphere sentiment and not your own actual thoughts
How come I never saw any jabs at Google for Maka-Maka. It’s Porn Manga.
are they using the http://nginx.net/ proxy then?
Even I know it’s ‘rite of passage’ and English isn’t even my native language :-S
I think it’s awesome they’re using killer Russian webserver nginx. They must have brought in some guts on this one.
I would expect the site to be able to handle 404 type of errors by showing an appropriate page which tells the user that the page they are looking for cannot be found or something like that. Its easy to set up and I would expect to see that on any decent website.
Another hooray to Nginx. However a 404 not found probably means they have mis-configured Nginx so that it is not proxying but serving files locally instead.
Looks like Hulu is built on Ruby on Rails and since it’s on nginx i would guess it’s being hosted by Engine yard.
Gee, have you given HULU your blessing?
I’m certain the folks there can quit trembling, vomiting and drinking
because YOU decided to become a fan, whew!
Now , after your inane ramblings about a site you’d never seen, knew nothing about, and had absoutely no connections to get pre-launch news,
you realized hey, if I slam them, they’ll never pay me to run a banner ad!
NOW you get on board. Just like I predicted in my post last week, you capitulated… and to think Walt Mossberg couldn’t sleep at night worried about your column…Oh!, I’m sorry, you don’t HAVE a coulmn do you? You just have a blog with a fancy name like 150,000,000 other posures working from their little cubbyhole in their basement.
This “hulu thing” Is just another pathetic attempt on your part to appear like you know what your doing.
If you’re 14-15 years old, I would chalk it up to naivete. If you are any older than that, you’re just a windbag with a website.Any adult who has seen your site more than once, can see right through your minimal business knowledge. and My name is Don Bowman
and plebs like me sit on the sidelines (aka the waiting list) just dying for a chance to get a 404 error. Oh, please, me next, please, please!
Oh, never mind. How do I get off the waiting list?
Well its sorted out man!
