i believe Google will make social networking more mainstream to the average web user, who is much older and much less sophisticated than the avg. facebook user.

i believe the web is the platform and google is wise to keep it that way...

social networking will creep into the average web user life, as google's platform is THE web for most... afterall, notice that Google OpenSocial can be abbreviated as Google OS?

Google’s Response to Facebook: “Maka-Maka”...

Google may have lost the bidding war to invest in Facebook, but it is preparing its own major assault on the social networking scene. It goes by the codename “Maka-Maka” inside the Googleplex (or, perhaps, “Makamaka”).

While I'm ranting I should add that it would be very nice if Google would respond to our emails and post inquiring about our offices providing a Hawaiian translation for some of their online services. I have contacted the email they provide for their localization coordinator - no response. Post to their translator’s discussion forum - my post doesn’t appear. Call their offices - get the runaround. If they want to use a word from our language for their product, fine, but support the language, too! How about it, Google?

If anyone here or reading this has anything to do with the project, and they are indeed using the Hawaiian language, PLEASE ask them to not hyphenate or split the word. It is "makamaka". I hate to sound anal but we are really fed up with advertising types misusing the language.
