If this this is a venture of NBC/Fox arent they the content owners? No Legal ways to watch shows in an even remotely timely way, means we the options outside the US are P2P, Pirated DVD's or nothing.

If the networks were smart, this is what they would do- make a format that only allows the viewer to fast forward a segment of video after they have already gone through it once, with HD quality. Include about eight minutes of commercials per hour ( half of what broadcast tv has), and make separate ads for different zones- for instance Heroes US; Heroes UK; Heroes Germany- The only difference being which ads are on them- and put them on their own p2p servers about fifteen minutes before the show airs. It would in effect be watched at the exact same time. They would have a record of how many times the torrent was downloaded that could be used as ratings, and after the first hour or two wouldn't have to use any of their own bandwidth- after an initial seeding using super high speed servers their investment would be complete and they would only have to worry about sending the records in to the ad agencies for them to get paid. It would have fewer commercials than tv, be completely legal (removing the stigma some associate with downloading off torrents) and would give them a way to profit off of the downloads that people would make anyway. Like people have been saying- who's going to wait six months for a show to be broadcast in a lower quality format.

The reason I can't see myself using Hulu is the DVR provided by my cable company. It's not exactly TiVo (or even MythTV) but it records programs and cost ~ $10/mo. I can just record any of the shows (and most of the movies) featured on Hulu and watch them on my big screen tv without having to worry about bandwidth or going to a website.

The one thing hulu has that makes me want to try it is the ability to send clips to your friends. That one feature, by itself, is going to be what makes hulu popular (especially if they can embed that capability). Can you imagine? People are going to be sending very specific clips that represent inside jokes or their current feelings to their friends and family. There are so many times that people send me clips and say "Skip to 1:43". If they can set up a video sharing system that just cuts to the good stuff (easily) then they'll be around for a long time.
