@Oliver: The gigapan site is not closed to our own panoramas. In fact, the number of panoramas from outside contributors far outnumber our own. We do, however, have a minimum pixel resolution of 50 megapixels. Please submit a bug report (using the Report a Bug link at the bottom of every page on gigapan.org) if you are having trouble uploading your panoramas.

I signed-up hoping that I could upload my 20 meg panormas and have an easy way of browsing them but unfortunately this is not possible. They only display their own.

I think this is an awesome idea but it looks like the deadline to apply to be a contributor has past. I sent an e-mail in to ask, does anyone have any further info?

I can’t get the flash image viewer to work properly in Firefox or Safari on OS/X.

I’m pretty sure that Microsoft Research came up with some free software that lets you do “roughly” the same thing, but without the stand. So the $279 is to get rid of the “roughly”

The coolest thing is that they’ve implemented it in Google Earth. It’s easy to browse the world and see nice panoramas all around the globe.

The nasty thing is that it’s pretty hard to build a community with this kind of subject. Now … how many people would actually contribute?
