Tomorrow MySpace will announce the upcoming launch of MySpace Games - a new area of the site where MySpace users can play casual interactive games with others. The site will initially be powered by Oberon Media, with other game providers to be added over time. Games will be embeddable into MySpace profiles.
I’d expect integration with IGN, MySpace’s sister company, over time as well. Look for a launch in January 2008.

This business model is very practical. It is surprising it took so long for them to implement this.
It may be possible that the competition from Facebook forced them to be more creative - they seemed invincible just a few months ago.
Oberon is the exclusive platform provider so I hear.
Well… I always thought it was a good idea. Its one of the reason why I put games on one of my websites. If your making a community blog system, news site, or whatever, depending on the people who come to your site, you should think about way to have them interact with each other.
Games is a good way to do that, especially with most homes having broadband, stronger computers able to handle the flash/shockwave (or whatever) game, billions of entertainment dollars going into video games and systems, and the advancement of virtual reality… not to mention the web 2.0 revolution of social interaction.
Now if only MySpace could only be designed a little better as far as themes for sites are concerned… and when will these blog communities, social sites and such figure out that, for a price, a company or individual would want to host their ENTIRE site on MySpace. You get an instant user base, faster SEO recognition, and plenty of avenues for marketing your site. The only place that is doing it (or as close to doing it) is Wordpress.
If MySpace goes this route, it will be as big as Google (well, maybe not that big). Games, TV/video, music, job search, virtual desktops… plus their other web and business properties… Man, I wonder what they plan on doing next?
Phil - I wouldn’t give them that much credit - they’re probably not “planning” on doing anything other than keeping up with what everyone else is doing.
Games are a good idea, yes, I just hope they don’t end up calling them MySpace Applications.
They’re aspiring to be a culdesac. Now there is a winning strategy!
Now it will be good platform for countless game enthusiastic apart from bands and musicians.
Hey! Just what our college students need ….
