Ever since Google announced its Google Gears project, we’ve been waiting for Google to make its apps work offline. Last Friday, they released some code that effectively makes Blogger work on Google Gears. It’s more of a demonstration than a full-blown product release, but it points to a day soon when all of those Blogger users will be able to write posts even when they are not connected to the Web. Google Gears already works with Google Reader, and Gmail may be next.

These google applications like gmail, google reader of blogger can of course be made offline, but what I think most interesting is that such service blurs the difference between offline and online world. For instance, people have been enthusiastic about google docs because it brought word processor online. If google gears or any other such service kick off and it gets integrated with MS Word, then that means that it combines advantage of both google docs and MS Word. I can write content while being offline or online and it will be stored both offline and online. That means it is a very good service!!!
good move. I like to think Yahoo! and Google will compete on the desktop, with a range of apps that work offline as well as online, using Gears is the logical step. Imagine if they could make iGoogle offline, effectively running a CMS on your desktop that pulls in Gmail, bookmarks, reader etc.
This is great news for bloggers who are constantly travelling!
…but it points to a day soon when all of those Blogger users will be able to write posts even when they are not connected to the Web.
Am I missing something here. Blogger users can still write posts offline like in Windows Live Writer.
Actually, the big announcement is the JavaScript library for Blogger API.
#4, exactly.
i love live writer.
@ Amit Agarwal
Yes that’s the point it’s the Writer they are upset with.
Glad you liked our blog.gears sample! Feel free to use our version or copy it to your own server and tweak it for your optimal travel needs.
If you have any issues with the sample (i.e. peculiar syncing) or general questions on the Blogger Javascript Client Library, please post them in the Blogger API forum:

i guess this is cool but couldn’t i do this before with Word?
What a bad choice of words in your title
Let’s face it, all blog platforms have horrible editors. I’ve always used an external editor: Windows Live Writer for offline, and even when online, I prefer Zoho Writer.
I can’t wait for it to be fiannaly released.
I prefer Flock, personnally. Has most of the daily-user features of LiveWriter, but works cross-platform on my Linux box too. Wrote an article on this:
