Seems like they are a bit behind. Image editing tools in flash? Why not create a ajax / canvas implementation. It would be a much better use of the tools!

CMS systems are integrating these tools as standard soon, like Silverstripe. I wonder what took them so long.

@Alaska Miller

"1) why can’t they develop this in house with the plethora of Yahoo engineers?"

Flickr is bought by Y!, but that doesn't mean they now share offices, run around in purple Y! shirts etc. They're pretty much still doing what they were always doing. It's still quite autonomous company, yet sailing under the Y! flag.

"2) why won’t they just buy picnic?"

Again, Flickr is not Yahoo!. Y! Would have to buy picnic. Seems like they don't want to.

Bruce,

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. We'd like to know more about the problems that you're seeing with Picnik. Can you send us feedback from within Picnik? Select feedback from the Picnik help menu. This will help us get a better idea of your OS/Browser, etc. If could also let us know how much RAM you have that would be helpful too.

Nice. I think Picnik will be a great addition to Flickr.

FYI,
Picnik Firefox add-one:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4889
Placing an edit button on top on every Flickr picture, but when you click on it, it's take you to a Picnik page (where you can edit your Flickr pic). I guess the integration will be the same, but the editing will be from Flickr page itself. (powered by Picnik of course)
Screenshot of Firefox add-one:

I really like Picnik, but with one major caveat: if I use it for more than a few minutes, it starts slowing down my computer, eventually making it unusable.

This has happened on more than one computer -- it's a real problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? Have any suggestions for how to prevent it?
