I'll just leave the mirco television part alone because that is subject to opinion, but my personal opionion would be to never call them that, and I'm guessing they'd say the same.

As far as first foray into politics, well that is just factually incorrect. Joshua Marshall from Talking Points Memo, is the host for Varacifier, a network owned NNN.  And this is from Varacifier.com:
