Definitely NOT spam. B2.0 subscribers etc. somewhere, buried, have agreed to get communcations from the company.

I published (paper) newsletters, and when we'd close one due to sagging subscriptions or whatever we'd always email the list with offers like this that we worked out with other publishers. NOTHING wrong with it - it's often a way for a publisher to legally dispurse their remaining subscription liability. The alternative might have been for them to send refund checks with money they didn't have to subscribers who could not have cared less.

Stop whining and do something about the real problems out there - the spammers looking to turn you into a bot on somebody's bot-net

They sounded the violins in their print magazine. If anything, you should applaud the separation of church and state where the editors actually aren't in charge of subscriber services, and subscriber services isn't in charge of the editorial content. What would have been ignominious is if the final editor's letter in the magazine included this sales pitch.

The funny thing about the closing of Business 2.0 (timing) is the fact that startups are more popular than ever (see recent post re: bubble) and cheaper to start for the average guy out there that doesn't have a million dollars kicking around to fund a new venture.

Obviously there is a business reason for shutting it down, but man don't you think the current explosive (dare I call it .com) startup scene would warrant keeping it around? I loved that magazine and hope I can find something to replace B2.0 -- :-(

Of course the link doesn't work, but geez, how hard would it be to take it off the list. Dinosaurs...

Lighten up Mike! really. I hate spam as much as the next guy, but you me and many who read this are all in the "make money from the internet" game. These guys are not overt spammers, we all know who they are. Just dump the email and call it a day.
