Twitter Testing Text Footer Ads

Microblogging service Twitter, long questioned over its lack of an apparent business plan, is testing text footer ads below Tweets.
This Is Going To Be Big captured the following image:

The format is a one line tip directly below the Tweet. The message might be flattering to CNet’s Caroline McCarthy, but it’s a fair guess that this is a test message and that in future it might read something like “Tip: Orkut, not just big in Brazil” or something similar.
Buried at the bottom of a Guardian article is mention that Twitter is looking at developing “branded channels” where companies can connect with Twitter users via their own corporate Twitter page. Twitter’s Ev Williams is quoted as saying this is an alternative to “attaching advertising to a personal communications channel” which would suggest that Twitter isn’t focusing on footer ads, but the screenshot above would seem to suggest otherwise.
What form of advertising would you accept on Twitter? Cast your vote below.

Too many Advertisement spam could create another reverse dot com bubble. This is means larger advertisement companies, shareholders, corporate companies can’t make money.
I remember Geocities & tripod started to display popup ads by accident.
That was biggest crash. People start making illegal javascript & clicking frauds.
Now, Google adsense TOS say “no popup ads”. Many investors will tell you this too “No popup ads”
I thought would be ad-free

ads will turn off users.
as such lots of junk floats on twitter.
Between paid ads and subscription fees something will have to pay for the cost of running such an expensive service. The problem with Ads is that given the power of the Twitter API, it would be too easy to remove them if they are just stuck at the bottom…
SMS Advertising isn’t exactly new. 4INFO (www.4info.net), has been doing it for a year or so now.
burrp.com in India is already doing this - they have been for the last 6 months or so
Is it just me who’d feel uneasy sending someone a Twitter when there’s a chance it might have “wow, you look good” stuck to the bottom? People who don’t read this sort of site won’t know it’s an ad message and will think I’m coming on to them!
You would think that such a progressive service would explore advertising possibilities that are more exciting than “footer ads”. Why is there no advertising on the actual site now?
I really hope they add an option to pay like Pownce does and make this go away. I find this really annoying, and would happily part with some $$$ for a better, “pro” experience.
hmmmm
footer ads, thats new

Without ads its better -> try out http://www.chittr.com (alpha)
I use Twitter to publish the RSS of my pro site SonidoLocal.com. After a test period we now know that users like and use it. I would be ready to pay for publishing in this way, paying for example according to the volume of suscribers.
Hi, I’m the @innonate in that message above. This is ridiculous. This does not mean they are going to do ads. You can never get high enough CPMs for SMS messages and nothing can be “contextual” enough for a cow-bell messages to turn a profit. Twitter’s plans are beyond contextual ads.
