Ever since the arguably very popular ZeFrank finished his daily “The Show” earlier this year, I’ve been trying to find a decent Ze Frank alternative, a video blog that is short, sharp and hoepfully funny as well.
I’ve had a couple of tips recently that Philip DeFranco might fit the bill, and NewTeeVee included DeFranco on their list of ZeFrank successors yesterday.
Perhaps being a Saturday, and desperately trying find something more to write about than Facebook’s plans for world domination something to do with music (that know one really knows for sure what it is but it still hit the top of Techmeme anyway), I spent some time watching The Philip DeFranco Show.
He’s actually pretty good.
DeFranco has the whole ZeFrank quick delivery down-pat, and the content is fairly good. It’s a little more raw in terms of language than ZeFrank was so it will offend some people, but that aside the kid has talent.
A full backlog on DeFranco’s videos can be found here. I’ve subscribed; let’s hope he keeps up the good work and it might end up becoming this years “The Show with ZeFrank.”
Two things:
1. His voice sounds like Ferris Bueller’s friend impersonating his dad over the phone to the principal. This is not a bad thing.
2. Inserting pictures of buxom women halfway through the show just so they’ll show up as the preview pic on YouTube is evil. I like it.

Which speech to text software do you use?
I watched the embedded video and then went looking for more. I was a little disappointed. I have to say there is potential – the embedded video is funny.

It’s funny, its the blinking ze frank tho. Also, i sure hope humanity doesn’t turn into a bunch of fast talking stylized hipsters, so overall this video kind of freaked me out, not quite ze frank, and not the wurst show either.
That Redbull must make you stupid, considering that even before the update that Apple released for the iPhone, you couldn’t use it on Verizon or US Cellular.
Why you ask? It’s because AT&T uses a network known as GSM. T-Mobile also uses this network. Verizon, US Cellular, Sprint and Alltel use a network known as CDMA. Hardware built for a GSM network will NOT work on a CDMA network and hardware built for a CDMA network will NOT work on a GSM network, no matter how much software unlocking you do to the phone.
Maybe someday, people will begin to understand this. But probably not.

That was good. . . . I appreciate snappy writing and delivery, but I always wonder why production values can’t be slightly higher if already spending so much time putting a show together in the first place. Grab a cheap lapel mic from RadioShack and clean up the edits a bit?

If I remember correctly he asked for money because someone screwed him over by taking 1k of rent money, leaving him stranded and alone in NYC. He asked for cash for gas to get to a safe place, and he stopped the more than willing donations @ 300 bc it was all he needed. You also don’t mention the fact that he paid all those people back 1 month later.

Rodney you are lying. It was $1500 phil took before taking down the video. He then posted a video the very next day laughing at all the idiots who sent money. That vid was removed a day later.
Phil made up a bogus story about needing money so he wouldn’t have to sleep in his car. Why didn’t he sell his computer if he needed the money so badly?

It’s true his is a liar. You need to do better research. He has e-begged for money not once, not twice but lots of times. He deletes those vids so there is no record of it. Also, he once pretended that his brother died in order to get more views. That video is also gone.

That’s ironic. When something happens ‘broadway’ and comes famous by the media, all of the critics then come out searching for a bug with it paranoiacly, and telling one of the bloodiest ruins centuries ago has been caused by this. I mean, he’s just a young man loving to voice over the World, that’s it. And you know, he’s never used the Internet from home before, so he’s got a very deep passion to use it, especially, in a very entertaining way.
Dude, you have to be a little bit more realistic. It’s not the way people are entertained by the stuff he does. People just laugh at him, not at who he points a gun upon.
But you have to beware that people like him, which means that they don’t laugh at him for bad.
