Media-centric social network Wixi, which launched at TechCrunch40 a couple of weeks ago, is giving away 5,000 invitations to its private beta to TechCrunch readers.
To claim yours, go here and enter “havefun” as the Wixi access pass. Once you sign up, you’ll be able to invite six of your friends. After these 5,000 invitations run out, users will be put on a waiting list for future batches of invitations.
Wixi users get 3GB of free storage that they can use to share photos, videos, and music with their friends and family. While the service is browser-based, Wixi designed the interface to feel like a desktop environment with drag-n-drop functionality. Files hosted on Wixi can be accessed through the Wixi website or displayed on users’ websites using an embeddable Flash Player (an example of which is shown at the bottom of this post).
The company is currently self-funded and plans to open up to the public in December.

i got mine last week, i really like this idea and it is the only social networking site i ever tried. that said i am disappointed with it, i am hoping it gets better.
ill give it 3-6 months and see where it goes.
I dont like webOS but I use Wixi for 2 weeks and it is more like a online Media Center thatn anything else, i think its cool.
Like the video “Russian Girl” in the player. Hummm… I will subcribe now!
Just checked it out. Pretty cool…let’s see what new features they add, it would be cool to be able to import from Flickr, etc. Cool product though.
Cool work!!! thanks. I like the execution, would just advise to add more social features to meet people faster. For example, adding some settings to filter the results. However, the Friends report window is great and make you get tons of files from your communiy.
Look like another webOS…let’s take a look. I like the player.
All i got was 1 MB space.. is that correct?
Why would anyone want this stuff?
MSN Media Viewer 2.7.0.8 is coming soon. wait for it. All of these useless things will be embeded.

yea, i also got only 1gb
Nice post - just tried it out and love Wixi. I don’t really like the WebOS concept - and their social tools are better than Box.net/Jooce, etc. WebOS is a boring war: http://www.alexa.com/data/deta.....=wixi.com/
Let’s see if Wixi has something different enough to make it pop.
Ed, you got one gigabyte or megabyte?
cuz all i got was one megabyte
You’re currently only using 1MB (the sample data) of the 3GB free storage you get.
Oh lord :-$ Thank you, Raymond!
Looks o.k. and 3GB isn’t to bad, but the name, the name… They obviously didn’t bother to consult with one of these name-design-companies. Seriously, “wixi” means “wanker” in german (at least that is what everybody who speaks the language will be thinking), so this website feels a bit weird to me. Imagine my girlfriend asked me what I had done last night, and I had to confess that I worked on my wanker…
Great site and what an awesome idea! Now I have access my files everywhere!
Congrats guys for an excellent product. Keep up the good work!
@Zeta. Maybe Wixi just thought Asia, Latin America, 90% of Europe will be enough to satisfy… Wixi is a short funny name. (I am from Rio, Brazil)
Actually there is another website http://www.mygrowup.com I like most. It also can upload different format of files, organize your personal digital life in a very easy way. its user interface may not fancy, but very useful.
It’s not working - the loading bar keeps acting like it’s loading. Reloaded twice.
I think it’s cool.
I got one invite from here .
Thank you .
Not bad as long as you don’t need more than 3gigs of room. Otherwise you can share an infinite amound of gigabytes by hosting them on your computer and inviting friends into your private network through http://www.gigatribe.com
I tried it when I got my invite at TC40, and I can see some users have more than 10GB of files on their Wixi, so I think they are not limiting the storage for all the beta testers, which would be really great!
I love the interface so far, so cool. When I show it to my friends, they are amazed too. Pretty cool product, with a far better interface than anything I have seen on the web and that really runs into my browser without installing plugins (flash, air, silverlight …)
I love technology!
HA! “Wixi”
they should have put more thought to that name, germans will get a kick out of this. I like it, but hey, I like all brands that are about masturbation. *zing*
The russian girls video is totally cheesy but I admit it, it’s adorable. But I need to know what the name of the band is? Ever tried google with “russian girls video”?
On “wixi”: the name is really a joke if you are german. The service, well, I can’t really find what makes this so special. It’s like flickr, youtube, whatever all in one nice frontend. That’s it? Or am I missing an elephant in the room?
Hopefully they won’t launch in Germany, the name wixi is kind of reserved for an expression meaning “to jack off”
Before expanding to Germany I highly recommended changing the name… Highly inappropriate.
Nice Site, Keep up the good work!
Unfortunately “wixen” (german, phonetic spelling of “wichsen”) means to wank
Giving away beta invites seems to be an excellent marketing ploy.
Err…I like it but isn’t this just going to attract attention from music and movie studios as another file-sharing mechanism?
