In response to Wire. Thanks for checking out our site. Our team uses Rails+MySQL. It works very well for us so far.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. Regarding suggestion #1, I agree that there are lots of improvement we can do to make prediction more fun on ZiiTrend. Our team had numerous discussion whether we should go for the betting game path like BluBet or the current path where we focus more on the prediction issue itself. We end up down-playing the gaming aspect of prediction. But still, I think there are many ways we can make prediction from topic to topic more fun. Your suggestion really reminds us what is important to normal Internet users.

Regarding the confidence level of each prediction, we are already showing it in the performance tab. But the information is kind of hidden. I doubt many users can find it. It is completely our bad. We will consider making this indicator more visible.

I don't why we are not having our blog on ZiiTrend yet. I think we should really set one up asap to keep in touch with you guys. We need all the input we can get.

Your website is well designed Tony. Its very solid for a relatively new looking startup. Did you design this all yourself? What platform are you using?

I have a couple suggestions about the site itself:
1) While the outcomes are fun to look at, I feel the incentive to vote on tons of things is still lacking. It could be fun to add $ to the mix...say if I wanted something predicted, I would put up $5. And everyone who predicts correctly gets a few cents out of the mix, you could make some money this way too.

2) by taking the "tag scores" of the people who have voted on an item, and also the number of votes, you should provide a confidence score for each prediction...that way people could actually think about using the predictions that have higher confidence levels.

I am still a bit awed about how well "completed" the site itself is (you have a press package!), considering how the site itself is still in its early stages. I hope you are not spending too much time on site design (which I feel in early stages of a site isn't overly important) compared to core feature development.

overall, the idea works...simplify the "social market" concept. However, I am not completely convinced about its long term success in the hearts of the normal internet user...ironically, perhaps the site itself could provide some answers there!

The beauty of social prediction is that regardless of your expertise level on a subject (or a tag in this case) you are still contributing to the prediction answer. Our team from ZiiTrend believes everyone is good at something but not everything. So, users can feel free to predict without worrying about being penalized because the system will find out what you are good at based on the tags.

Currently, the web site shows one single score (calculated from these internal tag scores). But in the near future, we will think of more creative ways to display these tag based scores. It will be interesting to see who is good at what more clearly.

I think this idea deserves some explanation on the web site itself. I think it is important.

The angle with tags is a smart feature, but doesn't perfectly address the fact that even non-experts have different information on certain topics that might contribute to a correct answer. Also, I'm wondering if incorrect predictions penalize predictors who were previously awarded points for correct answers, hence demoting their expert status.

Dave, to answer your question. You get better score if your prediction is accurate. You can choose to follow or go against the crowd, but at the end, the actual outcome counts. So, as long as you are accurate, you will get high score.

Yes, if you predict earlier and get it right, you get even higher score. If you predict right before the closing date, it will have little impact on your score. Throughout the lifetime of the topic, you can update your prediction as often as you want. As long as you get it right most of the time, you will do well.

nice site. nice intention. so if I follow all the majority vote in all the questions, i will become the most heavily weighted user? if I go against the stream and turn out I am correct, what is the return? would I get more?

would people who guess right earilier get more weights? i can predict the result of a games yesterday, how do you do the cut off?

If anyone wants to try a real prediction market that is similar in concept, I make some markets and trade on <a href="http://home.inklingmarkets.com" rel="nofollow">Inkling Markets</a>.

Very nice website! There are some really great questions and predictions over there, in various topics.

I guess there's nothing you can do about it - predicting the future is fun. Fun, fun, fun. If it's by guessing the weather, predicting the outcome of a sports event, or even just how long Brad and Angelina will be together, predicting the outcomes is thrilling and gives you a feeling of control over your life.

Have fun, PlaytheDay

That is a pretty neat site, but I do not think it will be of any use to anyone for statistics/data.
