Why do you have such a hard on for PayPerPost? Are you upset, maybe, that you didn't think of it first? Or maybe you weren't good enough to get a job with them. Whatever your reason, you should lay off of them. You are beginnining to sound like a whiny bitch.

Lucia - I've read your post and agree with your sentiments 100% ... but then why let the facts (and any fact checking, background information etc) get in the way of a good story. :-)

BTW, isn't that Lawrence fella just charming in your comments section (aka ... what.a.total.Wanker!!!)

@Martin: In response to my blog post on this subject, a commenter signing as Lawrence Salberg ( IP 24.233.159.12 which resolves to central Florida) also posted: "I blind-copied Arrington on my response to Peter - without comment or introduction - and all on the same email. "

If the person posting comments is not an impostor, it appears Salberg brought Arrington into the loop rather promptly.

This person has left two quite lengthy comments, revealing more details and his views about this issue. Those comments begin paragraphs with numbers as we see in the comment signed Salberg here.

Blogs being what they are, I can't be sure it is the real Lawrence Salberg.

Wow! So Salberg cc'd the email to PPP - well that changes everything.

So apologies from me (#45) to the headhunter - a little disappointed with some basic (lack of) fact checking here at TC.

And as stated at comment #123 - Salberg's soloincome.com ... Hmmm, smacks of "get rich quick", imo. Doesn't help the matter that the site never reveals the name, any name, behind the scheme just wants you to become a paying Captain, ShipMate or FirstMate ... really!

But that's off the topic of this post - just some background information...

I'm no fan of PPP (far from it), but in this instance one must question Salberg's judgment in emailing a wild rant AND then sending it off to the company.

BTW folks, on his site Mr. Lawrence Salberg calls a certain organization that supports a womens right to choose a "cesspool".

Yes, that's right.... According to Lawrence...

PPP workers are "Negroes"
Pacifists are pro-gay and anti-christian
Planned Parenthood is a "cesspool"

Wow Lawrence, have you ever actually read the bible you thump? You know, the one that talks about forgiveness, loving they neighbor, not judging others, etc...

You are a despicable excuse for a person and a father.

HATE is not a family value.

Salberg is a racist and homophobe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On his site he calls pacifists - "a died-in-the-wool, left-wing, diaper doper baby and afraid of any military conquest, except the invasion of the church by San Francisco homosexuals"

In his letter he calls PPP employees "Negroes" on a "modern day cotton picking farm".

Are you fucking kidding me???

This bible toting racist is the real story here.

Hey Lawrence, the dry cleaner called and said your sheets are ready!!!!!! You can pick them up on your way back from the lumber store and gas station.

What an ass.

I don't like PPP, but this is a simple personal email exchange. I don't understand why Mike is so dedicated to every bit of PPP news and manipulate in a way to attack them. Are we going to hear next about what they eat for lunch and how that's a disgrace for humanity? Give me a break, and go back to cover those startups!

I read blogs just so I can point out how stupid they are. Heaven forbid I keep my big mouth shut when I don't know what I'm talking about, I'll just draw some conclusions from the little information I have and make sure everyone realizes how cool I am for commenting and reading a blog which I disapprove of.

Thanks TC!

I found that there are many signs of a “CULT” at PPP.

====================
IDENTIFYING A CULT
====================
- The cult member sees himself as “righteous” in comparison and this comes across in their attitude toward all outsiders.

- They cannot see themselves as individuals apart from the group. Some even change their name as a rejection of their former life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will be surprised how many signs applies to PPP.
Here are more details of “IDENTIFYING A CULT”
http://www.ex-cult.org/General/identifying-a-cult
I’ve been observing neutrality until now…but when you look at PPP’s leader, business model and culture, I must say that Josh @ DJF bet on a wrong hand and can’t fold.
IDENTIFYING A CULT
====================
- The cult member sees himself as “righteous” in comparison and this comes across in their attitude toward all outsiders.
- They cannot see themselves as individuals apart from the group. Some even change their name as a rejection of their former life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will be surprised how many signs applies to PPP.
Here are more details of “IDENTIFYING A CULT”
http://www.ex-c...ntifying-a-cult

I’ve been observing neutrality until now…but when you look at PPP’s leader, business model and culture, I must say that Josh @ DJF bet on a wrong hand and can’t fold.

Post #120 from Salberg himself;

"1. As far as I know, Lori (referred to as the ‘headhunter’ by many here) did not forward the email to PPP. I copied PPP (to their general email info box) in my response. Why? I have no idea. Well, it seems like I remember thinking that they should be aware of it since we are, in a sense, talking about them behind their back. So, blame me."

He Bcc'd the email to PPP, the headhunter did NOT send it to PPP, Salberg did it himself.
So Mike has the story wrong, blames headhunter, and then blames PPP for over reacting.
Salberg is the cause of this entire mess.

@YH (#140)

the type of interaction DOES NOT happen everyday and everywhere as you claim. It is absurd to think a company would react like that to a job candidate. It is even more absurd that the headhunter shared the email with PPP. I hope that headhunter goes out of business.

PPP must have started a TechCrunch comment campaign....I'd say 99% of the pro-PPP comments are 'fake'.

When will PPP's investors wake up and cut the cord on these idiots?

Great post Michael....

the way you write--the way you describe things--totally cracks me up. phrases like: "racially offensive episode " ... "PayPerPost is a lightning rod for blogging ethics discussions" ...

Hey Mike, how come you edited and removed this from your post? We all saw it.

"The company complains that we write about them only because it drives controversy and traffic. That is, of course, absolutely correct. I freely admit it."

It was really there, you admit to using PPP for hits. Come on Mike, have the balls to stick with your first gut posts.
You can edit, but to amend, not delete.
You lose credibility big time when you delete stuff.

I'm not an employee of PPP or one of their posties, just a blogger who's enjoy the train wreck.

I think the entire PPP company probably commented on here (albeit anonymously) to defend PPP's actions - so sad....
