fox.jpgFox Broadcasting will offer season premier television shows for free on iTunes, beginning next week.

The move is said to be part of a push by Fox to expose iPod users to the new season of shows appearing as part of the new US television ratings season.

According to the LA Times, shows to be offered for free on iTunes include Prison Break, Bones, American Dad and “K-Ville; the idea being that by offering the earlier episodes for free now, viewers will return and watch the shows on TV as they are broadcast, or pay for downloads of these show later from iTunes.

The move follows a recent announcement that ABC will begin offering ad-supported free viewing of their shows on AOL.

“The move follows a recent announcement that ABC will begin offering ad-supported free viewing of their shows on AOL.”

Is this actual AOL the ISP, not AOL.com? Does that even still exist? And they offer all their shows already on ABC.com… how does this work?

five of them are already there:

    • Prison Break
    • K-Ville
    • ‘Til Death
    • Back to you
    • Kitchen Nightmares

I love Hollywood. Just a week or so ago Peter Chernin was rattling his sabre over itunes pricing. Now they are giving shows away!

I would love to compare NBC Universal and Fox revenue at the end of the TV season…..

Robert is right. I’ve already downloaded those five in about 30 min.

I was literally just wishing I had DVR’ed Back to You after reading a positive review - and now it’s already on my iPod. Killer.

Just how long does it take to put videos of TC40 on the web ??????

I have not clicked on all the companies, but it seems only PowerSet has a video out there.

Come on, the conference ended 3 days ago.

Why through iTunes? I thought Clown Co, I mean Hulu, was going to resolve all the issues for Fox and NBC. Those networks game plan continues to change each day. Is Clown Co, I mean Hulu, crumbling?

Finally something like that. I wonder if the shows are going to be available for download outside the US. Being in Germany, and being iTunes the only source available, I would buy the shows I like straight away!

I think you mean season premiere, not premier.

I wonder if the adult industry will ever do something like this?

i think i just came up with a great idea for a start-up right there….

    hmmm

  18. Bill

Any thoughts on when shows will be available in the Zune Marketplace?

  19. Not smart move

No body wants paid content. You see rerun TV show every summer year.

    People want Advertisement

  20. FOX marketing failure

Here’s real reason why no body wants paid download the show. One nearly 60% computer got inflect with spyware, malware, hijack wares. They don’t have time to check their computers and scan for viruses. When people punch CC# online. Their information get stolen.

Oooh what are you going to say about that?

  21. rod / techfold.com

Wow - these networks are really struggling to nail the equation - in the process of doing so, they’re creating exactly the confusion that Steve Jobs has feared will slow adoption.

What shows are available where? What software do I need to play them? How long will they work? Urrgghhhhh. Who knows. Say what you will about iTunes pricing, but it provided a universal interface, and consistent expectations in pricing, etc. This new world order is a horrible mish mash that offers consumers “choice” without value.

  22. What's Hot Today.com

Sort of a double edged sword. 1) The publicity is good. 2) The potential loss of revenue is not so good.

Are these just for viewing or for actual free download?

So Fox is putting shows on iTunes, NBC is pulling shows from iTunes, and developing a desktop app for video. What about hulu? scraps for the tards?

  26. Steve Ballmer

NBC has escaped the clutches of Apple! I guess this disproves the lie that they wanted to raise prices!!!

Nice move by Fox for sure. I will probably check them out when otherwise I wouldn’t even know about these shows. Now let’s just hope they don’t suck ass.
