This video is clearly about how the outcasts (dorks, geeks, freaks) in society do in fact smoke lots of ganj before developing some of the most profound products and solutions this world has seen.

Problem is the kid isnt smoking but only wishing that sunflowers were in fact smokable peyote. But the dude has clearly convinced the crowd around him that he does indeed have a steady supply.

Ooma is hoping that kids wont bogart their service but puff puff pass and share the ooma goodness with their bro's and bra's. Drop Ooma Not Bombs.

The video is meant to show that the *ooma* service is viral. The kid not allowed to play is an early adopter, and the product is so cool that other's adopt it. Viral video. Viral product.

Ooma folks -

The kids are the Local exchange (LEC's) and competitive local exchange carriers (CLEC's) that have been playing together for years and creating a monopoly within their industry. They don't understand anything outside of the norm. Ooma's images show the spirits of soon to be DEAD LEC's and CLEC's in our telcomm world. The flowers represent the beginning of a new era in the industry.

Pretty straight forward to me.

I can't believe no one understands what this intro/marketing video is about.

Open your eyes people. Ooma is our new god. Spreading love and flowers through out the world and giving us dial tone. It really is a epiphany.

I bow down to Ooma the mighty provider of dial tone.

I see only one explanation for this video... do something so nonsense that people start talking about its being nonsense and start the viral!!
So I still don't get the meaning of the video but I'm talking about it... so they did the right thing. Anyway I agree that drugs might be in some way involved in it!! Either the kids were under drug or the director, or us TC readers!

PS: one thing for sure, I wont send any friend this crappy video, so as far as I'm concerned, the viral stops here.

Ooma sounds like Ohm which is a holy meditation symbol of Hinduism, with a profusion of esoteric and exoteric meanings. In modern usage Om means the Word, and is supposed to have extracted the letters "a" "u" "m" from the "Vedas," and they thus explain its mysterious power and sanctity. "Om" is also the name given by the Hindus to the spiritual sun, as opposed to "Sooruj," the natural sun. The word is Sanskrit. It is pronounced at the beginning and end of every lesson in the "Veda" and it is also the introductory word of the "Puranas." It is said in the "Katha-Upanishad": "Whoever knows this syllable obtains whatever he wishes." This is because all words are said to be but various forms of the one sound, "om", according to the “Upanishads." It represents the divine and the power of God. It is the sound-symbol for the ultimate reality.

It means that Ooma wants to share it's cool new way of doing things and have some fun, but the traditional telecommuncations services are arrogant and will not let anyone else hang out with them.

So Ooma goes off and does it's thing, and it looks cool and fun things are happening, and now everyone wants to hang out with Ooma. Ooma is not a traditional service, but more like magic and dreams coming true.

Either that or Ashton Kutcher is goofy and drunk on power in his newfound position. Take your pick!

It's like...the other kids are like closed, stoical old POTS providers, with monthly fees, and they don't want anything to do with him because they think he's like stupid or something, like other companies that think Ooma's approach will never work and it's foolish and stupid, and he attracts them with what he can do and what he was able to make out of nothing, like Ooma can be very powerful and make excellent phone calls with amazing quality out of no money charged for it, and makes them amazed by what he can do, like they hope Ooma will make other more established POTS companies envious by what it can do.

Simple... the big boys in the mobile phone/telecom playground don't want to play with anyone else (or play nicely)... but Ooma comes along with something brilliant and imaginative and suddenly they take notice.

All of your friends are cute little sunflowers in a field and by using ooma you to can be a cute little sun flower in a fiend and connect to all of your loved onces. Once you have all the power of Ooma in your home your friends will think your smoking pot but then it will all be clear and everyone will want to run and jump on the service.

I'm thinking that there is a whole other level to this ad - in fact its one of the surreal things where everything after the kid gets rejected didn't actually happen.
the smoke rising from the ground was clearly a hallucinogen inducing the this kid's fantasy to have friends.
Its kind of like a "Don't do drugs" ad gone wrong...this kid experiments, and is rewarded with imaginary friends. I don't think this is sending the right message to our youth.

If I remember right, Ashton said in the the TalkCrunch interview that he didn't have a lot of money when he was a kid. Maybe he was an outcast. Now, however, he's got this really cool toy that does crazy things, and everyone wants to play with him.

Or maybe it's just a load of nonsense. I imagine the 2nd option is probably more in line. Oftentimes "symbolism" ends up being code for "Philosophy 101 in script form".
