It’s an important milestone not only for the ‘moz but for all of SEO – especially in consideration of reports (e.g. from MarketingSherpa) that marketers’ spending has been continuing to increase year-over-year however shifted noticeably in favor of doing SEO in-house more, last year.

Obviously if true that puts pressure on SEO agencies and/or consultants, such as ‘moz, myself and many others, to be continually raising the quality-of-service bar. In SEO IMHO, more often than not one gets what one pays for. Moreover, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. SEM as a refined global practice is still in a very young stage. There’s much growth to be had; much exciting work to do, new tool builds and otherwise.

So here’s to great things coming of it, and hopefully more investment dedicated SEO to come.

I love the content on SEOMoz and i’m surprised they haven’t posted up this success yet on the blog. Great job Rand and the SEOMoz team. I’m sure they’ll put the money to good use in developing new technologies as well as other services for their clients (including all of us search marketing pros) — Can anyone say Numenta yet? when it comes to technology development??

My customers are always looking for the value in the products I provide to them and so we follow a very strict and strong ITSM philosophy at my job. We have to show the value of our programmers and IT professionals to the client as well. One way we’ve improved on this is through data center automation. With this in place we have been able to do more with the people I have. They’re constantly working on new software or applications that continue to help improve application availability as well as upgrade our current generation of services.

It’s great news for Rand and team.

But this post at TechCrunch is misleading. As Rand explained earlier, “we’ve gone from being primarily a search marketing consultancy business to one that’s heavily focused on an SEO product – premium content & membership.”. The $1.25MM investment is to allow them to strengthen the resources in the premium section (and their free stuff, too), not to expand their SEO services.

Rand and his fellow Mozzers are some of the nicest people around and some of the best in the search industry. I’ve been fellowing them for years and have had a chance to work with Rand on a SEO project.

I’m still various curious about their plans with the funding and how it will change their service offering. But it shows that SEO has definitely matured into the real deal – no matter what Jason Calacanis says
