Israel-based BlogTV will be releasing a Facebook application for sharing amateur video today.
The application, which you can get here, lets users stream shows through a widget on their profile pages. You can also browse your friends’ live streams, posted videos, and upcoming shows. Broadcasts can be viewed on a fuller canvas page with chatting capabilities built right in.
The company also says that users will also have the ability to promote their shows in their friends’ news feeds.
With this integration, BlogTV joins the ranks of uStream and Stickam, who have also created Facebook applications. We recently covered the handful of companies making it easier for people to stream video online.
Some statistics provided about BlogTV by the company itself:
- Average time spent on the BlogTV site is 20 minutes
- 350 live shows are broadcasted every day
- The most popular tag for recorded shows is “music”

I would pull that screengrab of Ariel if I were you, it looks like a picture of an underage girl in her nickers, let alone it’s called “Ariel’s show”. I’m not some PC idiot here, I honestly thought when I first looked at the article that it was about under-age porn being streamed on blogtv.

How is this any different than Facebook’s already existing Video application?

Why not just save all the FACEBOOK APP CRAP for a once a week posting? Do it all at once. I am so over all this FB nonsense. It’s almost like you have this obsession with that site that keeps you scouring the web for nothing but FB apps.
It will be interesting to see how long before FB clones the most popular apps and then bans the use of all the others.
Yeah that screengrab should definitely be swapped out guys. I doubt BlogTV wants to be known as an underage upskirts site.

It is streaming. Facebooks video application does not allow streaming.
I’ve swapped out the screenshot that you guys thought was inappropriate. I appreciate the sensitivity, but let’s try not to get too worked up about these things - it’s not like the photo showed anything you wouldn’t see in many public settings, or on lots of other perfectly acceptable websites for that matter.
In any case, it seems a bit unfortunate to me that many see a female in online video and automatically wonder whether it is porn. Let’s remember that there are many other, general audience uses for video online.
Also, Fake Steve Ballmer, your comments border on spam - please try to be funnier or stop leaving them. I don’t mean to be cruel, but come on…

No worries, FMA - we don’t consider you spam.
I would have put some more thought into it before posting a screenshot with an image like that. Regardless of what the intentions were for someone taking a picture like that in the first place, it’s not a common situation for any child to be caught on camera in that nature. Let alone having that published online. There’s certainly something shady with it.
Not to be critical Mark. I’d just hope you put some more thought into it next time. I doubt Mike and TechCrunch want to even leave the possibility of THAT type of criticism open.

My question is this - can i run videos on facebook like i do on myspace.. Can I place a video on my profile page where when my page is shown it loads ready to play… or is it a link to somewhere else to see video…????

If I was facebook.com I would have jumped on this application and company. This can be a super cool feature for all facebook users to engage each other LIVE! now on the web, later on the mobile…and than..maybe on TV!!! Mark Zuckerberg..Wake up! Grab it now.
