BlogTV Integrates Streaming Video into Facebook

Israel-based BlogTV will be releasing a Facebook application for sharing amateur video today.

The application, which you can get here, lets users stream shows through a widget on their profile pages. You can also browse your friends’ live streams, posted videos, and upcoming shows. Broadcasts can be viewed on a fuller canvas page with chatting capabilities built right in.

The company also says that users will also have the ability to promote their shows in their friends’ news feeds.

With this integration, BlogTV joins the ranks of uStream and Stickam, who have also created Facebook applications. We recently covered the handful of companies making it easier for people to stream video online.

Some statistics provided about BlogTV by the company itself:

  • Average time spent on the BlogTV site is 20 minutes
  • 350 live shows are broadcasted every day
  • The most popular tag for recorded shows is “music”

Check out some screenshots below for a preview of BlogTV’s new application:

but do any of them have a way to charge people to see the stream? i’d even be willing to give them a cut…

i’m trying to decide which one to go with for my naked news and all-day variety show

  2. Avinash

Cool application. Would be real handy to facebook users.

  3. FakeMA

The Ariel Girl looks very young to me… is she over 18????

  4. Ryan Moynan

I would pull that screengrab of Ariel if I were you, it looks like a picture of an underage girl in her nickers, let alone it’s called “Ariel’s show”. I’m not some PC idiot here, I honestly thought when I first looked at the article that it was about under-age porn being streamed on blogtv.

  5. FakeMA

    @Ryan
Same here Even I thought it was some thing to do with porn … i wonder no one else noticed it yet its been a while the post has been up here…

  6. asdf

    @FakeMA
Yes, very odd. Not what I expect to see when tuning to Techcrunch.

  7. steve ballmer

Already obsolete! At MSN we are deploying something very superior to this late next year.

  8. Ryan Merket

How is this any different than Facebook’s already existing Video application?

  9. Ryan Milnes

Is this related to http://www.blogtv.ca ?

  10. Dominic

Why not just save all the FACEBOOK APP CRAP for a once a week posting? Do it all at once. I am so over all this FB nonsense. It’s almost like you have this obsession with that site that keeps you scouring the web for nothing but FB apps.

It will be interesting to see how long before FB clones the most popular apps and then bans the use of all the others.

  11. Chris Coyier

Yeah that screengrab should definitely be swapped out guys. I doubt BlogTV wants to be known as an underage upskirts site.

  12. FakeMA

    @chris
I think the guy who posted it should have seen it, strange to see no response from techcrunch yet…

  13. Rodney Rumford

    Ryan,
It is streaming. Facebooks video application does not allow streaming.

  14. Mark Hendrickson

I’ve swapped out the screenshot that you guys thought was inappropriate. I appreciate the sensitivity, but let’s try not to get too worked up about these things - it’s not like the photo showed anything you wouldn’t see in many public settings, or on lots of other perfectly acceptable websites for that matter.

In any case, it seems a bit unfortunate to me that many see a female in online video and automatically wonder whether it is porn. Let’s remember that there are many other, general audience uses for video online.

Also, Fake Steve Ballmer, your comments border on spam - please try to be funnier or stop leaving them. I don’t mean to be cruel, but come on…

  15. FakeMA

Spam wtf you add child porno on ur website and if someone bitches u call it spam???

  16. FakeMA

OMG sorry for the last post for a moment I read it as FakeMA my bad :( there shud be a delete comment button as well :((

  17. Mark Hendrickson

Um, FSB didn’t bitch about the screenshot I put up. He made an inane comment and then linked to his blog.

  18. Mark Hendrickson

No worries, FMA - we don’t consider you spam.

  19. Greg

I would have put some more thought into it before posting a screenshot with an image like that. Regardless of what the intentions were for someone taking a picture like that in the first place, it’s not a common situation for any child to be caught on camera in that nature. Let alone having that published online. There’s certainly something shady with it.

Not to be critical Mark. I’d just hope you put some more thought into it next time. I doubt Mike and TechCrunch want to even leave the possibility of THAT type of criticism open.

  20. Mark Hendrickson

Fair enough - I appreciate the response, Greg. We certainly don’t want to publish anything inappropriate, especially when it comes to children.

  21. Tim

Did you guys think that from now on, every time you want to communicate with all your friends, you can do it live through Facebook?

  22. Albanese Paolo 4exp

fantastic, one optimal alternative to ustream.tv

  23. Don

These guys went all the way and not just did a crappy widget on profile. This is smart!

  24. Richard Corsale

I thought that FSB comment was .. sorta, kinda, funny. The Irony here is that he’s a knock off Fake Steve Jobs :)

about blogTv … I’m picturing every brothel in the world getting a T1 installed at the same time.

  25. Jerry

This is interesting, but is it really better than Broadcaster, stickum or the other competitors? It looks like hype to me.

  26. steve ballmer
