We just got off the phone with iPhone Unlock salespeople WirelessImports and we have five free unlocks for CrunchGear and TechCrunch readers. How can you win one? Enter our Steve Jobs look-alike contest. Take your – or a friend’s, loved one’s, or sig other’s – picture in a black turtleneck and jeans and send it to contest@crunchgear.com with the subject line “UNLOCK MY IPHONE.” Reality Distortion Field optional.
You have to have an iPhone to enter and presumably not like/not have Cingular service or be ready to buy one when we pick you. We’ll pick five entrants at random on Friday, September 14 at 12PM EDT. Visit CG for full details.

errr, you mean four free unocks. I get one.
None of these worked for me. I unlocked my iphone at http://unlockip...e.blogspot.com/ quick and easy, unlocks on any network also
Sounds cool, but how do we know the phones will continue to work later? Can’t apple just create some workaround so that in the future it won’t work with another service provider?
Unless I am mistaken, the unlock makes it so that you can use the iPhone with Spring, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. ?
Sounds great. Hope it stays that way, and it is not just until they do their next software update.

you can unlock it to work with t-mobile in the US and almost any GSM carrier elsewhere around the world. Regarding the workarounds and updates – PRESUMABLY this is will survive an update, but nothing is certain. Besides, all you have to do is dress up like steve jobs. We’re not making you get a CG tattoo like Mike.
Magnificent products for the readers to win. Too bad I don’t have one.
Mike – what good is an unlock now unless you are willing to pay the contract break fee. I don’t get why so many who are already locked to ATT are so willing to want to unlock the phone. Except maybe for overseas usage perhaps.
http://code.goo...p/independence/ – presumably you also did this to your iPhone earlier.
Hah, nice contest. Good luck to the winners.
I wish I was slimmer. And taller. And slimmer. And taller …
But I have a reality distortion field, … does that count?
Allen – you are way too practical sometimes. It’s cool. Therefore I want it.
Yea — here is the conversation at the SXSW:
Dude 1 – Yea boy my iphone is unlocked, I even got the tshirt
Dude 2 – Oh, mine isn’t, I just use it normal
Dude 3 – I don’t even have an iPhone – I will go find someone else to talk to
Fine Woman walks over – hey boys! Any of you unlocked?
Dude 1 – oh yea I am totally unlocked!
Dude 1 wins Fine Woman
End of Play
great!

I have an iPhone and AT&T service – don’t really feel the need for an unlock. It would be more expensive for the data plan on other networks. Also, 3G is a battery hog. Have fun!
Yeah, but can you wipe it and install windows mobile?

Hmm, what reality distortion field inducer are these guys smoking?
$99 for a software unlock, that could potentially be made useless by any apple firmware update…
I predict someone will buy one, then reverse engineer what its doing, and sell that for much less.
Doesn’t look like Steve Jobs, but he does look like Apple Fanboy #1 Kevin Rose:

Does that count for anything?
Why get them free…when you are going to get them for
$99

Will the phone still work after the update?
Will apple still support it?
Yeah, what no one seems to think it is important to report is that you get one unlock for your 99 dollars. If Apple releases an update that locks your phone again, you have to pony up the 99 again to get back your freedom.

Hey, this guy got it working in Germany:
