I wish Nokia would concentrate on fixing its own phones instead of wasting time with stunts like this. I have an E62 and it's terribly buggy, slow, crashes, and they gimped the ability to run 3rd party apps. Nokia refuses to issue a firmware update to U.S. users and instead abandoned the phone. I'm pretty sure I'm never buying another Nokia phone again.

I have to agree the new ad by apple is like rubbing salt in the wounds of their most loyal customers. And in regards to early adopters paying a higher price, that is usually the case, but not with Apple. Does anybody has an example of Apple doing a significant price drop after 2 months?

Nice bit of touche work there. Like when Michael Jackson who promoted Pepsi passed out due to dehydration and Coke put full paid ads in the paper saying "Thirsty?"

Early adopters can be a bit angry since it was a pretty quick price drop. You don't mind paying a premium for 6 months lead on the turtle market but only a few months hurts.

Billy is right about the cost though. Early means a higher price, always.

I'm just bitter because I have a Cingular 8525 I got 6 months ago that works 80% brilliant and 20% completely painful.

I still don't understand why the "early adopters" are angry. People bought into the hype and spent $600. If you didn't have $600 to spend, then you wouldn't have bought the phone.

[...] Techcrunch reports on an interesting adwords response by Nokia to the latest iPhone news and pricing. Of all the things Nokia could have offered, MOSH seems an odd choice. Their pitch is that you can salvage your lost $200 with the free content offered by the MOSH social sharing network. Sorry to say I’m not feeling that … [...]

This probably isn't actually targeted to current iPhone users.

My best guess is that iPhone users won't be searching on "iphone price drop" cause they're not buying. If they got mad, they're more likely to be assuming it's true, talking smack and not wanting to hear the details right away.

Or, since that first round was full of hardcore types, they probably were reading about it on GearCrunch or wherever.

Lots of people thinking about buying one might be searching on that phrase. That means they might go for free content that they could then use on the phones they already have.

This is more about laughing at angry people than tempting angry people with free but basically unrelated content.

That said, Mosh looks kind of cool.

Congrats, Late Adopters

I bought a Nokia N80ie when they were $500 and watched the price drop to almost half when the N95 came out. I agree that, as a consumer, I do not really have the "right" to be angry. 30 days delayed buyers remorse always seems to take hold though!

New ad on that search:

Congrats, Late Adopters
iPhone drops $200. Now you get all the iPhone for 2/3 the price.
(store.apple.com)

This is a hidden gem of google -- ad wars.

see http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1190/1335211585_f78e38b787_o.jpg

in fact any search with 'nokia' and 'iphone' in it also brings up no ads.

Well it doesn't make me want to switch to Nokia, but I would definitely be pissed if I bought an iPhone a month ago and wasted $200.

Just heard about the iPhone price drop for the first time. Usually when I am watching the news at home and I hear Apple, the channel is already changed.

I hate to say this, but iPhone users got what they deserve for falling for such an over hyped phone.

As a Nokia only user, two thumbs up for the good marketing effort.
