If they want to buy something really interesting they should look at Wikidot (http://www.wikidot.com) - they are more popular than ArmchairGM and seems to have a nice potential as a Wiki 2.0. They have private messages, contacts etc. from the very beginning. They just need polishing and nicer design.

Does anyone know about other sites in the same space? Does anyone have information which is gaining the most traction? Are they funded? What are the major players doing about this, i.e. espn, foxsports?

I think these guys are doing something good for sports fans. I spoke with co-founder Dan Lewis last night about the updates and I love the "foe" idea, you have friends, you have frienemies, now you have foes. And the messaging makes sense as well. Team won last night, why not shout it from the rafters.

FYI, it's ArmchairGM not Airmchair GM.
