@Gabriel I think that this is a great concept, as I am a fan of mobile social networking. With all the twits of the world checking their phones 10 times a minute for updates, it's a good idea to bring a different level of social interaction to your service.

Great answer Gabriel. I think it is a really nice idea to work on. There are plenty of features to add.

Hi there,

some technical feedback to your comments:

- The top 10 selling mobile phones in Germany all have Bluetooth. It's pretty standard here.

- Switching Bluetooth on does not significantly lower standby time of your device. It does, however, lower it when you use Bluetooth to transfer files or use a headset. Both is not done by aka-aki.

- You can stay in touch with your friends using aka-aki. Even if they are somewhere else. aka-aki uses an Internet connection to keep you posted about your friends' activity. You can even send messages to them for a fraction of the standard SMS cost.

- If you don't want to visible to others: Just switch Bluetooth off. And you can block your profile for certain users as well.

- And not to forget: We already have a lot of fun using aka-aki. Imagine all the people you never met.

Regards,
Gabriel

As cool of an idea as it is, I don't see a lot of people enjoying getting a message that some random person is 20 meters from them, who they have never met, wanted to talk. That part of the idea seems a little bit creepy to me. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

quick poll, how many of you leave your bluetooth on all the time? I always turn mine off to save battery power. That's the big problem with these ideas. Not enough people will 1) have a bluetooth phone 2) have it on even if they do

yeah, i'd say mobile social networking is big - the next big thing won't be a youtube or myspace ver2, but some social net that's primarily mobile-focused.

Wow. I do think it's a cool idea, but that's a true niche alright. Between location, proximity, language, and security, I think it'll be slim pickins.
