Google announced the addition of YouTube style embedding to Google Maps this morning.
Google Map mashups have been popular for a long time now, however for the non-programming inclined including a Google Map on a blog or website hasn’t always been easy. The new embed feature (as above) now provides an easy way for anyone to include an active map on their site.
Embedded maps can be customized in terms of size and can also include driving directions, search results, or a user generated map.

Is that where you live Duncan?
Nice! Will definitely try it out.
Wow…I was at DreamWorld exactly one year ago. fanastic place. If you go, remember to get your picture taken with the Tigers there, it’s awesome!

no, I don’t live in a Theme Park (or QLD for that matter), although I’ve heard some people refer to Silicon Valley as Dreamworld before, so I thought the map reference sort of worked
This is great. My question is, can I get directions using the map or setup default directions?
thanks for the heads up on this… it’s still a bit unclear to me whether the map data has to be hosted at google or whether it can be KML and thus driven dynamically as in the enclosed example. If it’s the latter, they’re going to put several smaller guys out of business such as http://www.afcomponents.com, who claim to be ‘working with’ google on their technology…

Wow, this is something of value to blogs and sites.

After a bit more inspection I’m thinking this is a bit of a non-event - they use iFrames to embed the linked content which must already reside on google hosting.
So, you can’t embed these things on myspace or facebook pages, and you cant embed maps with dynamic content… anyone have a different read on it?
I am still waiting for a high resolution African maps in Google. It is not fare to always ignore Africa.
I hope that google will correct this and I will be able to post my Safari trip to Africa on line.
The dynamic content is what I was hoping for. Is that going to be in the next release of the google maps api?
Did you want to chart your African safari or take an African safari?
on wordpress i’ve got this

any advice?
thanks all, alessio
This is a feature that might be useful in our site. But then for the Australia site this cannot zoom down to the lowest level, that might be a drawback for us. BTW I lived very close to the Surfer’s Paradise a few years back, the theme parks there are no where close to any one in CA.

I can imagine this will be excellent for chronicles of travel, conference/event planning.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t result in too many naive site owners giving their personal home address, promptly getting all their stuff nicked the following night!
Excellent, i will consider applying it to my websites.
YouON: Same problem here, I can’t even preview the embedded Map in Wordpress. Same error message.
I am getting a common message that I haven’t found the answer to.
This is what shows up on my website when i try to load my new map:

How do i embed a map into wordpress, just like your map on this page?
Cheers Steve
Hi.
I have created a tool that generates an embed tag for google map, and want people to try it.
You can create a tag just by clicking on the map. Please give it a try. You can start from this URL (show you how to use):
http://ongmap.com/blog/?p=117
or just go directly to the site (http://ongmap.com)
I’ve trying to embedd a google map into a facebook application but haven’t had any luck. I’ve discovered that you cannot use the map using the traditional onload attribute in the body tag.
Have any of you had any luck?
Thanks,
Bailey
I have no problem using Google Maps and hitting the “link” icon, then using that iframe to embed the map in a page. However, it appears that that map is now only good for those specif coordinates. I want to use that ifame code piece but dynamically put in the latitude and longitude depending on the specific page its appearing in. Does anyone know if this can be done without getting more heavy into the google API?
